Seniors Enjoying Themselves

I was on my way to the Chinatown train station to catch the train when I saw this group of seniors singing and dancing in a corner. They attracted quite a crowd - locals and curious tourists. The seniors were really into it, enjoying themselves, dancing and singing along. The spectators were so caught up they were dancing and clapping along too.

It was rather heartwarming looking at the scene. The simple pleasures of gathering together on an evening and having a good time. I hope I have the energy and enthusiasm when I am their age.

Paraprosdokian

A paraprosdokian (from Greek, meaning "beyond" and "expectation") is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anti-climax. For this reason, it is extremely popular among comedians and satirists.

Some paraprosdokians not only change the meaning of an early phrase, but also play on the double meaning of a particular word, creating a syllepsis.

Queen of the Night

I was told it is wrong to use the word 'pungent' to describe the fragrant of the flower. What I meant was that the flower has got a very strong, pleasant fragrant. It smells really nice.

When I first planted it, they were two dying branches which a neighbour had discarded. I did not expect them to survive. But they did, and not only that, they have blossomed many, many times. I am very pleased.

There are another six or seven buds blossoming soon.
