Afterwalk Walk

I was feeling a bit more energetic than usual. So, I decided to walk a bit further than I usually do on my afternoon walk. It was a nice day after all. I walked across the road from where my normal walk route ends, and continued along the canal till it reached the reservoir.

On one side of the canal are factories. They were reflected in the canal, adding a nice touch to the scenery.

High-rise Buildings

In land scarce Singapore, the only way to find more space is upwards. There are so many high-rise buildings here that people call Singapore a concrete jungle.

Some photos of buildings taken when I was out and about. They are a mixture of commercial and apartment buildings. Some of the buildings are quite nice.

Shadows

Instead of the usual floral photos I took on my walk, here are some photos of shadows. These sharp shadows on a hot sunny day caught my eye. So, something different.

Thoughts On Death

Life and death are two sides of the same coin. Where there is life, there is death. We must understand this and accept that there is no escape from death. Death is not necessarily something negative. Some would say Death gives meaning to Life.

Once we understand that we are here only for a few years, we might learn to appreciate the short time we have more. We should all 'wake up' and start living the life we want instead of wasting it away.

Here are what some people say about death.

Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. - Napoleon Bonaparte

Death appears unlovely only to those attached to earthly things. - Unknown

Death is a creditor that is never ignored. - Edward Counsel

Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives. - A. Sachs

Death is never convenient, no matter what the circumstances. - Peter Watts

Death strips all men of dignity. - Tobsha Learner

Death surprises us in the midst of our hopes. - Thomas Fuller

Death is the end of every worldly pain. - Geoffrey Chaucer

Death is the wish of some, the relief of many, and the end of all. - Seneca

Death is not the worst that can happen to men. - Plato

Death is a distant rumour to the young. - Andy Rooney

Death is a law, not a punishment. - Jean Dubos

Death submits to no one. - Homer

Death takes no bribes. - Benjamin Franklin

Death lies dormant in each of us and will bloom in time. - Dean Koontz

New McDonalds Outlet

There is now a McDonalds outlet in the Choa Chu Kang park. It has a dine in service as well as a drive-through service. It started operation recently.

I am surprised that the authorities granted them the license to operate there – given that they are always encouraging people to live and eat healthily. To have a fast-food outlet in a park kind of doesn’t make sense. Maybe they are hoping that the outlet will help to attract more people to the park.

Choa Chu Kang Park

Nowadays, in the parks and gardens here, a corner is set aside for community gardening. The idea is to turn common spaces into community gardens allowing people in the community to come together to create, develop and sustain a gardening space in their locality. These community gardens foster a gardening culture and a greater sense of civic ownership. It is also a good opportunity for neighbours and peers to come together for bonding and sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Residents in the nearby area can rent a gardening plot and plant vegetables, or flowers, or whatever their creativity juices can come up with.

Here are photos of the fruits and vegetables planted by some of the community members.
