Too often, our unhappiness is a result of our greed, and desires, and our ignorance of where happiness can be found. We are always wanting, desiring more. When we do not get what we want, what we desire, we are unhappy. The greed, the desiring never ends. Therefore, we can never be happy.
We have to understand that our happiness does not lie in materialistic things. Our happiness does not come from getting everything we want. It comes from sharing what we have with the people who matter.
Happiness, or unhappiness, depends to some extent on external conditions, but also, and in most cases chiefly, on our own physical and mental powers. Some people would be discontented in Paradise, others ... are cheerful in a graveyard. - Arthur LynchNo man can reach the state of perfect happiness unless he brings his coveting heart and mind under complete or proper control. So long as he seeks his happiness in the satisfaction of his desires for material gains, he will never find it. In the first place, he cannot obtain everything he wishes for. - K. Sri Dhammananda
It is not the level of prosperity that makes for happiness but the kinship of heart to heart and the way we look at the world. Both attitudes are within our power so that a man is happy so long as he chooses to be happy, and no one can stop him. - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
So, if you want to happy, just choose to be happy.
