Coffee: Drink to Your Health

Good news for coffee drinkers.

For many years, coffee was considered a vice, linked with sleepless nights and cigarettes. But scientists have discovered that coffee contains potent antioxidants that can fight numerous ailments, including heart disease and diabetes. According to the American Coffee Association, 54 percent of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis, and they drink, on average, over three cups each.

The diseases coffee can benefit include:

• Dementia.
Drinking moderate amounts of coffee during middle age — classified as three to five cups daily — can decrease the risk of dementia by 65 percent, according to a 2009 study by Swedish and Finnish researchers.

• Liver disease.
In those who drink too much alcohol, those who drank the most coffee — more than four cups every day — reduced their risk of developing alcoholic cirrhosis by 80 percent.

• Heart disease.
Research associated with The Nurses' Health Study found that women who drank two to three cups of coffee daily had a 25 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease. Along the same line, a Spanish study found that men who drank more than five cups of coffee each day lowered their risk of dying from heart disease by 44 percent, and that women who drank four to five cups each day reduced their risk by 34 percent.

• Prostate cancer.
A recent study from Harvard Medical School found that men who drank the most coffee slashed their risk of developing the fastest growing and most difficult to treat prostate cancers by more than half when compared to men who drank no coffee.

• Gout.
Drinking four or more cups of coffee each day dramatically reduces the incidence of gout, say U.S. and Canadian researchers. Men who drank four to five cups daily lowered their risk by 40 percent, and those who drank six or more cups daily reduced their risk of developing gout by 59 percent when compared to men who didn't drink coffee.

• Breast cancer.
Coffee can either reduce the risk of developing breast cancer or delay its onset, according to Swedish studies. They found that coffee alters a woman's metabolism and produces a safer balance of estrogens. Women who drank two to three cups of coffee a day reduced their cancer risk by as much as two-thirds, depending on the specific type of breast cancer.

• Diabetes.
Enjoying six or more cups of coffee daily can cut chances of Type 2 diabetes by 54 percent in men and 30 percent in women over those who don't drink coffee..

• Parkinson's disease.
Several studies show that drinking coffee lowers a man's risk of developing Parkinson's up to 80 percent — and the more the better.

• Colon cancer
• A Japanese report found that women who drank three or more cups of coffee every day slashed their risk of developing colon cancer in half.

What's responsible for coffee's healthy benefits? Most researchers believe it's the antioxidants (polyphenols or flavonoids) in coffee, but there are hundreds of compounds in coffee that may be partially responsible.

Make new friends but keep the old ones; one is silver and the other’s gold.

My best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget.

I walk one morning with a friend and wished the day would never end.

We shall never have friends if we expect to find them without fault.

Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend’s forehead.

If you want an accounting of your worth, count your friends.

Give to your friends regardless of how much they give to you.

Friends shows us that the greyest day is brighter than it seems.

He alone has lost the art to live who cannot win new friends.

If you should die before me, ask if you could bring a friend.

Fate chooses our relationships; we choose our friends.

Everything is good when new, but friends when old.

Life without a friend is like death without a witness.

Probably the most neglected friend you have is you.

Best friends are the siblings God forgot to give us.

None is so rich as to throw away a friend.

The road to a friend’s house is never long.

Philosophy Of LIfe

Every one of us, unconsciously, works out a personal philosophy of life, by which we are guided, inspired, and corrected, as time goes on. It is this philosophy by which we measure out our days, and by which we advertise to all about us the man, or woman, that we are. . . . It takes but a brief time to scent the life philosophy of anyone. It is defined in the conversation, in the look of the eye, and in the general mien of the person. It has no hiding place. It’s like the perfume of the flower – unseen, but known almost instantly. It is the possession of the successful, and the happy. - George Matthew Adams

Your philosophy of life is your general outlook on life and its problems, especially when that outlook gives character and direction to your thoughts, and becomes the chief impetus of your actions. - Unknown

Dream Rangers

This is a must watch. It is an advertisement, supposedly, based on a true story. I almost cried when I watched it. I hope I will have the courage, and the guts like the men in the video when I reached the final stage of my journey on Earth. So much to be said for/of the video. Watch it, and you will understand. Although the video is in Mandarin, there are English sub-titles, so you shouldn’t have a problem understanding it.

Food For Thought

To be honest, to be kind – To earn a little and to spend a little less, to make upon the whole a family happier for his presence, to renounce when that shall be necessary and not be embittered, to keep a few friends, but these without capitulation – above all, on the same grim condition, to keep friends with himself – here is a task for all that a man has of fortitude and delicacy. - Robert Luis Stevenson

Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. We see our past achievements as the end results of a clean forward thrust, and our present difficulties as signs of decline and decay. - Eric Hoffer

Men give me credit for some genius. All the genius I have lies in this: When I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. I explore it in all its bearings. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort which I have made is what people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought. - Alexander Hamilton

The Purpose of life

What are you here for? What is the purpose of your life? Apparently very few children ever think of asking themselves this question. Indeed many people will go through their whole lives from birth to death and it will never occur to them to consider the matter at all. The result is that there is no development at all. They have allowed everything to happen to them instead of they, themselves, making things happen for themselves. Only very few have realized that the purpose of life is growth, progress from ignorance to enlightenment and from unhappiness to happiness. - K. Sri Dhammananda

To comprehend the purpose and meaning of life, one must above all love life and become totally submerged in the turmoil of living... he who understands the sheer experience of living, will, by the same token, understand the theory of life. - Kostya Ryabtsev

The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience. - Eleanor Roosevelt

The purpose of life is to accomplish your dreams and goal – make the most of what you have and have made a difference while you are here. - Unknown

Bar Acrobatic

I love these Acrobatic acts. The artistes made it all seem effortless. But we know it is anything but that. The hours, not to mention years of training… the pain, the injuries suffered during training… the blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes…. I have the utmost respect for these artistes.

Success - Quotes

Those are a success who have lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who have gained the respect of intelligent people and the love of children, who have filled their niche and accomplished their task, who leave the world better than they found it, whether by a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of the earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best they had. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion. . . It is the man who carefully advances step by step, with his mind becoming wider and wider – and progressively better able to grasp any theme or situation – persevering in what he knows to be practical, and concentrating his thought upon it, who is bound to succeed in the greatest degree. - Alexander Graham Bell

Everyone who achieves success in a great venture, solves each problem as they came to it. They helped themselves. And they were helped through powers known and unknown to them at the time they set out on their voyage. They keep going regardless of the obstacles they met. - W. Clement Stone

Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief. Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success. Remember this, too! Big ideas and big plans are often easier – certainly no more difficult – than small ideas and small plans. - David Joseph Schwartz

There is no such thing as a born hard-worker, a born salesman or a born genius. We are all born ignorant, with innate underdeveloped abilities. One cannot afford to merely let things happen. If one seeks success, he will have to make things happen. -Mark Brinkerhoff

Success does not necessarily mean that we must earn a great deal of money and live in the biggest town. It means only that we are daily engaged in striving toward a goal that we independently chosen and feel is worthy of us as persons. - Unknown

Many men and women succeed in a big way, yet do not possess extraordinary intelligence or ability. If we take a closer look at their success, we can usually see that they are startlingly different from others, even those far more gifted than themselves, in that they have the utmost confidence in their ability to accomplish whatever they set out to do. - Unknown
