Change

Change is inevitable. It is the law of life. Everything in life is in a constant flux of change. Nothing remains the same for long. Our only security in life is our ability to change. And the key to change is to let go of fear – the fear of change, the fear of the unknown.

We are reluctant to change because change can be uncomfortable. We get too comfortable in our habits and environment, and we don’t want to change. Even a rut can be comfortable when we are in it long enough. Change means adapting to the new. To accept new ideas and give up old values and habits is not always comfortable. So we would rather stick with what we know and are comfortable with.

But, when we resist change, life becomes at best a continual struggle; at worst, it passes us by and we are left behind while people around us advance. If we want things to be better, we have to bear with the inconvenience first. Once we have settled into the new environment, we will be glad that we make the move to change. Ultimately, all change is for the better.

Change is hard because we overestimate the value of what we have and underestimate the value of what we may gain. We have to view change as a natural phenomenon – to anticipate it and plan for it. If there is no change, there is no growth, no progress.

When change is necessary, we should just take the plunge. We should welcome the chance to experience new things and opportunities. Quite often, we emerged better for it and are glad that we did it – our lives being richer for the experiences.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is people only change when they are ready. It is difficult to persuade someone to change. No amount of goodwill, or good intention, pleading or persuasion will make people change. But until they come to that moment of realization for themselves, nothing you say or do will make people change.

There will be times when we long for change. When we are unhappy, and we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. That is when we look forward, and welcome a change. When we are ready for change, we do not find excuses or resistances. We know it is time to move on. But when we are not ready, or willing to change, change can be very difficult.

Change

People resist change largely because of the fear of the unknown. If we are assured that our change is for the better, I think we would gladly do what is necessary to change.

However, we must understand that change is a constant in life. Nothing remains the same forever. At some point, for better, or for worse, we have to change. Maybe we have to change for the worse first, before changing again for the better. We just do not know. What we could do is to go with the flow. When it comes time to change, we must change no matter how reluctant we are.

Any change is better than none and most change is for the better. It has the power to uplift, to heal, to stimulate, surprise, open new doors, bring fresh experience and create excitement in life. It elevates us from mediocrity and saves us from false security. Certainly it is worth the risk! We must also keep in mind that it is only through change that we can continue to experiment with ourselves and our lives. - Leo Buscaglia

When we find that life is a bore, that existence is a chore, that the wonder and magic of being alive is vanishing, it is possible that it is because we are resisting change. If we have become trapped in a dull, lifeless rhythm, we must resolve to give up our resistance and dance to a new step. When we do, we will surely rediscover that change is our greatest source of happiness, stimulation and continued growth. - Leo Buscaglia

When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realized that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world. - Unknown

Change

Change is uncomfortable, even if it is for the better. That is why people resist change. Unfortunately, like it or not, at some point we have to change. In fact, we have to change constantly because without change, there is no progress, no advancement.

To accept new ideas and give up old values and habits is not always comfortable. But, when we resist change, life becomes at best a continual struggle; at worst, it passes us by and we are left behind while people around us advances.

We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don’t have something better. - C. JoyBell C.

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. - King Whitney Jr.

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind is a part of ourselves; we must die to (sic) one life before we can enter into another! - Anatole France

Change will occur whether we like it or not. It will either be change in a good and healthy direction or change in a bad and regrettable direction. - John Gardner

All things change, nothing is extinguished. There is nothing in the whole world which is permanent. Everything flows onward; all things are brought into being with a changing nature; the ages themselves glide by in constant movement. - Ovid

Change is the watchword of progression. When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. - Unknown

It is the greatest mistake to think that man is always one and the same. A man is never the same for long. He is continually changing. He seldom remains the same even for half an hour. - George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff

Starting something new, or making a big change, requires effort, persistence, and motivation … doubt, fear, and worry will only slow you down. Focus on doing your best now, and celebrate every step of the way. - Doe Zantamata

Don’t change just to impress and please someone. Change because it makes you a better person and it leads you to a better future. When you have to start compromising yourself or your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you. - Unknown

Change

When we say things like "People don't change", it drives scientists crazy. Because change is literally the only constant in all of science. Energy, matter, it's always changing. Morphing. Merging. Growing. Dying. It's the way people try not to change that's unnatural. The way we cling to what things were instead of letting them be what they are. The way we cling to old memories instead of forming new ones. The way we insist on believing, despite every scientific indication, that anything in this lifetime is permanent. Change is constant. How we experience change, that's up to us. It can feel like death, or it can feel like a second chance at life. If we open our fingers, loosen our grips, go with it, it can feel like pure adrenaline. Like at any moment we can have another chance at life. - Dr. Meredith Grey

You don't have to love change to be successful, but you need to be willing to accept it. Change is a catalyst for personal growth. It gets you out of a rut, it gives you a fresh start, and it affords you an opportunity to re-evaluate your direction. If you resist change, you're really resisting success. Learn flexibility, or learn to like living with your failures. - John C. Maxwell

Nature obliges everything to change about. One thing crumbles and falls in the weakness of age; another grows in its place from a negligible start. So, time alters the whole nature of the world and earth passes from one state to another. - Lucretius

Reflect frequently upon the instability of things, and how very fast the scenes of nature are shifted. Matter is in perpetual flux. Change is always and everywhere at work; it strikes through causes and effects, and leaves nothing fixed and permanent. - Marcus Aurelius

The key to all change is in our inner transformation, a change of our hearts and minds. This is human revolution. We all have the power to change. When we realize this truth, we can bring forth that power anywhere, anytime, and in any situation. - Daisaku Ikeda

Change

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. - Alan Cohen

Since changes are going on anyway, the great thing is to learn enough about them so that we will be able to lay hold of them and turn them in the direction of our desires. Conditions and events are neither to be fled from nor passively acquiesced in; they are to be utilized and directed. - John Dewey

The people who keep back change are often exasperating. But they have their work to perform, highly important work, too. Their very opposition, besides helping to weed out the weak ideas, gives the true ideas greater strength. For an idea is not worth much unless it can sturdily make its way through opposition and display toughness of fibre. - John Daniel Barry

The sad thing is that, even though we know our lives aren't working in certain areas, we are still afraid to change. We are locked into our comfort zone, no matter how self-destructive it may be. Yet, the only way to get out of our comfort zone and to be free of our problems and limitations is to get uncomfortable. - Robert Anthony

Change

Change moves in spirals, not circles. For example, the sun goes up and then it goes down. But every time that happens, what do you get? You get a new day. You get a new one. When you breathe, you inhale and you exhale. But every single time that you do that, you're a little bit different than the one before. We're always changing. And it’s important to know that there are some changes you can't control and that there are others you can. - Dan Dunne

Change. We don't like it. We fear it, but we can't stop it from coming. We either adapt to change or we get left behind. It hurts to grow; anybody who tells you it doesn't is lying. But here's the truth: sometimes the more things change the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes change is good. Sometimes change is everything. - Dr. Meredith Greg

It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be. This, in turn, means that our statesmen, our businessmen, our everyman must take on a science fictional way of thinking. - Isaac Asimov

It seldom happens that a man changes his life through his habitual reasoning. No matter how fully he may sense the new plans and aims revealed to him by reason, he continues to plod along in old paths until his life becomes frustrating and unbearable – he finally makes the change only when his usual life can no longer be tolerated. - Leo Tolstoy

Change – The Path to Self-Evolution

Among the greatest of natural laws is the condition commonly known as ‘change.’ Through observation of life’s process, we note that change preceded growth – and since all things are constantly in the process of change, it follows naturally that all things must be experiencing growth or evolution.

In the case of man, we find that there is an unrelenting desire for a state of static constancy in life, as opposed to the world of change in which he lives. This tendency does not altogether detract from man’s realization of his highest aspirations, but if pursued to an extreme, it limits his creative expression and the achievement of his cherished goals and ideals.

To illustrate this point, consider the artist who perfects the technique of one aspect of his craft and is quite satisfied to constantly use only that technique because of its proven effectiveness, never trying new ideas of deviating from the original method. Obviously such an artist would know little success, if any, from his craft, and would not have the inner satisfaction of the growth experienced by those who try new ideas and methods to better enhance their creative expression. Such a limited attitude and way of living are in direct opposition to life’s natural process of evolution, and are the cause of much unnecessary anxiety and fear any time a change of importance is required for the growth of an individual.

In order to achieve a greater degree of happiness and fulfilment in life, we must strive to accept change as a necessary and useful part of our lives; as a prerequisite for our growth and mastery.

To better understand change, we must remember that man is a creative being and, as such, is the prime cause of all the conditions he experiences in life; many times the creation of our experiences of change originates from the yearnings of the inner self for fuller expression and are not a conscious effort on the part of the objective mind. The objective mind or intellect of man creates change through the thoughts, beliefs, and subsequent actions that are a part of his daily life.

Therefore, man places himself in a peculiar paradox where he, being the creator of his experiences of change, feels that he is a “victim of fate” and is anxious and fearful of those same changes of which he has been the source.

This can plainly be seen in those who have a pessimistic outlook and tend to dwell on the negative, worldly aspects of life; they seem to manifest more of those same negative conditions and circumstances in their lives than would someone who thinks constructively and positively. Thus, if we want to be happy and have a sense of greater fulfilment, we must create those conditions in our lives that will foster such happiness and fulfilment.

Changes present opportunities for growth which are often mislabelled as “problems” or “obstacles” and are things which we often think of negatively, rather than as positive conditions in which we can evolve certain qualities and characteristics to a greater degree. We will find through personal experience that by greeting those opportunities with a positive and constructive attitude, we quicken our evolvement and attain a greater degree of mastery in our lives.

The opportunity to accept our self-impelled changes and to take control of our lives can begin right now – if we so choose. If we choose not to act, we may delay our evolvement, but only for a time. In the meantime, life will continually present us with more opportunities to evolve ourselves, and we will eventually realize the need of our accepting and taking full advantage of these opportunities if we are to further our growth and mystical development.

Change

Change is always possible unless our brain has stopped functioning. It is a choice that need not be wrenching or threatening. Adapting to life’s currents is a natural process, and, in the final analysis, the path of least resistance.

Of course, the new, the untested, the uncertain cause their share of anxiety. But any change is better than none and most change is for the better.

Change or Perish

I got the following interesting fact about the eagle from another blog. I am not sure how true this is though. But still, it is a good parable.

The eagle has the longest life-span of its species. It can live up to 70 years.

However, in its forties, its long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food. Its long and sharp beak becomes bent. Its aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers become stuck to its chest and make it difficult to fly.

The eagle is then left with 2 options: die, or go through a painful process of change which last 150 days.

The process requires that the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it drops off. After that, it will wait for a new beak to grow back. With the new beak, it will pluck out its talons. When the new talons grow back, the eagle will start plucking its aged feathers.

And after 5 months, the eagle takes its famous flight of re-birth and lives for 30 more years.

This parable illustrates the importance of change. Many times, in order to survive we have to undergo a process of change. We sometimes need to get rid of old memories, habits and other past traditions. Only when we are free from past burdens, can we take advantage of the present.

Change is a law of life. Without change, there would be no growth, no progress, no improvement to our lives. In the case of the eagle, change is a matter of life and death.

Change

Are you one of those who embraces change, or are you one of those who resist change, and prefer the safety of the tried and tested?

Habit and apathy prevent us from wanting to change. Some people would prefer to be in a rut than to change. Yes, even a rut can be comfortable – once you get used to it. To accept new ideas and give up old values and habits is not always comfortable. It is often easier for us to deny that there may be more appropriate, more creative possibilities for our lives.

When we resist these potentialities, life becomes at best a continual struggle; at worst, it passes us by and we are left behind while people around us advances.

Change can be fearful, no doubt, and any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. That is why people fear change and resist change. But without change there will be no progress. Hence, we must learn to embrace change. We must constantly renew, and rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we stagnate.

When change is necessary, we should just take the plunge. We should welcome the chance to experience new things and opportunities. Quite often, we emerged the better for it and glad that we did it too. This is how we progress, and our life would be richer for these experiences.

Change is the law of life. Everything in life changes. Nothing is constant in life. We must learn to view change as a natural phenomenon – to anticipate it and plan for it. Our only security in life is our ability to change. And the key to change is to let go of fear – the fear of change, the fear of the known.
