Money

It is said that money is the root of all evils. That is not quite right. By itself, money is neither good or bad. Money is a commodity - to be used as a medium of exchange. It is neither godly nor evil. It is people's greed and their craving for money that is bad, that is the root of evils. Or, in some cases, it is the desperate need for money that caused people to commit evil.

Money, like fire, is a terrible master but an excellent servant. Use your money for the good of humanity and you, as well as the money are good. Use it for unlawful means, you and your money are evil.

A person’s treatment of money - how they make it and how they spend it, is the most decisive test of his character. Making money is not difficult; saving it requires wisdom but spending it properly is an art. You can make money in many ways; just make sure it is the right way. Money earned by illicit means will always come back to haunt your guilty conscient.

Money’s easy to make if it’s money you want. But what people really want is the luxury, the fame, the recognition and the admiration that comes with having money. And this is a problem because, the craving never ends.

Money can buy you a lot of nice things, but all the money in the world cannot buy contentment. The only thing money gives you is the freedom of not worrying about money.

Money will come to you when you are doing the right thing. Do what you feel you have a flair for, and if you are good at it, the money will come.

If you know how to manage your money, you will always have enough. If you do not know how to manage your money, you will always find yourself needing more money. When you chased after money, you never had enough. But when you are content with what you have, you will find that you have plenty.

It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy; but it’s good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven’t lost the things that money can’t buy. - George Horace Lorimer

He that is of the opinion that money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money. - Unknown

The covetous man cannot so properly be said to possess wealth, as that may be said to possess him. - Francis Bacon

If a man has money, it is usually a sign, too, that he knows how to take care of it; don’t imagine his money is easy to get simply because he has plenty of it. - Edward W. Howe

Men make counterfeit money; in many more cases, money makes counterfeit men. - Sydney J. Harris

Money doesn’t change men, it merely unmasks them. If a man is naturally selfish or arrogant or greedy, the money brings that out, that’s all. - Henry Ford

Much ingenuity with a little money is vastly more profitable and amusing than much money without ingenuity. - Arnold Bennett

Money can buy … a clock, but not time; a bed, but not sleep; a book, but not knowledge; a house but not a home; a partner but not a true friend; position, but not respect; blood, but not life; sex, but not love; food, but not an appetite; medicine, but not health; insurance but not safety. - Unknown

On Love

Anyone can come into your life and say how much they love you. But it takes someone really special to stay in your life and show how much they love you. Words are cheap, but action speaks louder than words. Without loving acts, loving words are meaningless.

When someone loves you, they don’t always have to say it. You can always know it by the way they treat you. You will feel safe and comfortable. You will feel loved. The one who loves you will never leave you, because even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he will find one reason to hold on.

Love is not possession. If your love is only a will to possess, it is not love. If you love someone, you must give him space, and room enough to grow. Love is not a reaction either. If I love you because you love me, that is a mere trade. To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something – and it is only such love that can know freedom. Freedom and love go together. You must love in such a way that the person you love feels free.

We have to understand the person we want to love. If we only think of ourselves, if we know only our own needs and ignore the needs of the other person, that is not love.

To love the one who loves you, to admire the one who admires you, in a word, to be the idol of one’s idol, is exceeding the limit of human joy; it is stealing fire from heaven. - Delphine De Girardin

We should remember that saying ‘I love you’ is only a beginning. We need to say it, we need to mean it, and most importantly we need consistently to show it. We need to both express and demonstrate love. - David A. Bednar

Love seems the swiftest but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century. - Mark Twain

Love cannot survive if you just give it scraps of yourself, scraps of your time, and scraps of your thoughts. - Mary O'Hara

Love is important but so is acceptance. All the love in the world won’t make a relationship work if deep down inside you’re plotting or hoping to change your partner. - Michael Baisden

Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get … only with what you are expected to give … which is everything. - Katharine Hepburn

If you would be loved, love, and be lovable. - Benjamin Franklin

If you love someone, showing them is better than telling them. If you stop loving someone, telling them is better than showing them. - Unknown

Fuchsia Plant

Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. There are over 100 species of Fuchsia. The vast majority of garden hybrids have descended from a few parent species.

Fuchsia leaves are opposite or in whorls of three to five, simple lanceolate, and usually have serrated margins (entire in some species), and can be either deciduous or evergreen, depending on the species.

The flowers are very pretty - rich and sweet coloured, and cute looking. Some would call it decorative. They have a pendulous teardrop shape. They bloomed in profusion throughout summer and autumn. For the tropical species, it is possible to see them all year.

They have four sepals and four shorter, broader petals. The sepals are bright red and the petals purple depending on the species. They can vary from white to dark red, purple-blue, and orange. A few have yellowish tones. The bright colours attract the humming birds which pollinate them.

The fruit is a small dark reddish green, deep red, or deep purple berry, containing numerous very small seeds. The fruit of some species are tasty while some are flavourless or leave a bad after taste.

This is Fuchsia Magellanica - also known as Lady's Eardrops, Angel Earrings, Earring Flower, Hardy Fuchsia...

Of Quips n Quirks

Without laughter, life would be intolerable. Where there is laughter, there is joy and happiness. Laughing faces do not mean that there is no sorrow! It means that people have the ability to deal with their sorrows! It means that instead of wallowing in self-pity and moaning about their ills, people are able to rise above their problems, or sorrows.

So, laugh, the world could use some humour and laughter – a lot of it, in fact. Your laughter might be the only ray of sunshine some people see for the whole day. Laughter translates into any language and is contagious. Laugh and the whole world laugh with you.

May your weekend be filled with laughter.

Stachytarpheta Indica

Stachytarpheta indica is also commonly known as Indian Snakeweed, Blue Snakeweed, and Nettle-Leaved Vervain.

Salverform, blue to purple flowers composed of united petals form a tube. Only about two to three flowers are open at a time on the spike, lasting for one day and replaced by a new set the next day. Sometimes, you might see more than that, but you will never see the whole spike bloom at the same time. The inflorescence blooms in this manner for several weeks.

Stachytarpheta Indica grows well in tropical climates in well drained, fertile soil enriched with compost. This species is planted as an ornamental shrub for its beautiful blue to purple flowers.

This plant is said to be a medicinal plant and traditionally used to treat diabetes and fever. The juice from the plant is used to treat cataract and sores. Fresh leaf is crushed and applied on ulcers. Leaf extracts were shown to protect liver cells from a toxic chemical (Joshi et al 2010).The level of protection was comparable to a standard hepatoprotective drug called Liv-52. However, it is not known how much of these medicinal values are true. So, you should always consult your physician before using or consuming a plant for medicinal purposes.

An Underpass

This is a newly opened underpass on my walk route.
This is the other side of it. Before the underpass came into existence, walkers and joggers using this route - which is also a Park Connector had to do a slight detour, to cross the road to continue on the walk route. With the completion of the underpass it is easier for joggers and walkers now.

It is quite a big project - it being just next to a very wide canal. Nearing the end of the project, it was disrupted when the pandemic happened, bringing the project to a standstill for a while. Now that pressure of the pandemic has eased off a bit, work was resumed and they managed to finish the project. Jolly good.

The Naughty Chef

The menu at The Naughty Chef is Italian inspired. I tried googling it for more information, but couldn't find much being said about the restaurant. So, they must be new in the market.

At the moment, they have two restaurants - one in the Downtown business district and one in the East of the Island, in Bedok.

My friends and I went to the one in the Downtown business district.

These were what we tried.

Porchetta Tapas
Roasted Italian Crispy Pork Belly
Roasted in-house with homade marination

Caprese
Buffalo mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, balsamic reduction and pesto
Mini Florentine
Porterhouse (500gm) with Insalata Mista
Parma Ham and Rocket Pizza
A bottle of house white. We had two, in fact. We had a long leisurely dinner, while we talked about what's ailing this world.
We had dessert too. I don't know why some of the desert come in a plastic container.

Bailey's Tiramisu

Basque Cheescake
Dark Chocolate Tart
All in all, the food were all very nice.
I don't know the name of the building the restaurant is in. They are diagonally across from the Lau Pa Sut market.
We didn't get to find out how naughty the chef was, or in what way he/she was naughty.
