'Lilytopia' - A Display of Lilies

‘Lilytopia’ is the name of the display of lilies in the Flower Dome. The display is on now until the 15th of June.

Lilies are the national flower of Italy. As with all flower displays in the Flower Dome, information on the country where the flowers are from are also featured. Visitors not only get to enjoy the colourful and gorgeous blooms, they also get to learn something of the country where the flowers are from – bits of information and fun facts about Italy.

For example, do you know that the alleyways in Italy were built narrow to offer shade in summer, shelter in winter, and a kind of intimacy that broader streets do not have. Or that the Grand Canal of Venice snakes through Venice like a wide, inverted “S”, nearly four kilometres long, linking the lagoon to the heart of civic and mercantile life. Bordered by more than 170 buildings, each one built to be seen from the water. Or, that Vespa, meaning wasp in Italy, is an Italian brand of scooters. They have been in the market since after World War II.

At the display are replicas of the aforementioned buildings and a vespa.

Here are some photos from my visit to the ‘Lilytopia’ display. All in all, the ‘Lilytopia’ display was very impressive. There must be thousands of lilies on display. Beautiful, colourful and the dome was filled with a nice fragrance from the lilies. I noticed the fragrance the minute I walked in.

The Flower dome is open from 9am to 9pm. You can buy tickets online. While doing that, check that they are not closed for maintenance. You don’t want to go all the way there to find they are closed. That would be unfortunate.
