Tabebuia Rosea aka Trumpet Tree

Tabebuia Rosea is also known commonly as the Trumpet tree. The tree got its name from its trumpet-shaped flowers which range in colour from pink to white.

Over here, they are commonly seen along roadsides and in parks. Flowering seasons are usually around late March, April and around August. Apparently, they bloom after the rain which is preceded by a very warm spell of weather. The blooms last for a couple of days and the blooming season lasts for about a week to ten days.

When the flowers fall to the ground, they form a beautiful carpet of flowers around the tree. We call it our ‘Cherry Blossom Season’. The trees, covered with blooms of pink, or white flowers are quite spectacular and quite a sight to behold. On a breezy day, it is mesmerising to see the flowers spiralling down to the ground adding to the carpet of white and pink flowers.

These are trumpet trees along my walk route. There are quite a few of them throughout the route. However, these are quite old, and were also trimmed some time ago. So, the blooms were all at the top of the trees, and didn't cover the whole tree.

These are young trumpet trees – planted a few years ago. They are doing very well and I look forward to them blooming when they are more mature. Their blooms will be quite spectacular then.

The beauty of axioms and maxims is that they are simple and easy to understand and yet, they hold so much truth in them. Some of them, you will notice, are simply, factual statements. And yet, if you could speak of them at the right moment, it shows the wisdom in you.

Bear a few of these words of wisdom in mind, you never know when a few simple words from you might boost someone's confidence, inspire and motivate, or change someone's life around.

Abilities

All of us have abilities. We are all good at something. It is in Nature’s scheme of things that we are given different abilities. With our abilities, we do our bit in contributing to society and that is what makes life works. Imagine if we all have the same abilities; life, then, would not be as progressive and interesting.

So, don’t worry that you do not do as well as the next person in a certain field. Maybe that is not where your ability lies. Look for that something you are good at and put your abilities to good use. You are the only person who can use your ability. Be good at the thing you have the ability for, and you will be set for life. It is said ability is a poor man’s wealth.

Mediocre ability, well developed and properly planted, will produce a larger tree of success than will extraordinary ability, scattered or uncared for. - Nathaniel Clark Fowler

Ability for stupendous toil is lodged in every human spirit, a grand gift from the God of nature; but only the persevering worker knows what this latent power is able to achieve. - Elias Lyman Magoon

In the last analysis, ability is commonly found to consist mainly in a high degree of solemnity. - Ambrose Bierce

Natural abilities can almost compensate for the want of every kind of cultivation, but no cultivation of the mind can make up for the want of natural abilities. - Arthur Schopenhauer

Nothing is more destructive of individual character than for a man to lose all faith in his own abilities for the prosecution of his work. - John Gottlieb Fichte

The art of using moderate abilities to advantage wins praise, and often acquires more reputation than actual brilliancy. - Francois de la Rochefoucauld

We rate ability in men by what they finish, not by what they attempt. - Norman MacDonald

The abilities of man have not been exhausted; nothing has been done by him that cannot be better done; there is no effort of science or art that may not be exceeded, no depth of philosophy that cannot be deeper sounded, no flight of imagination that may not be passed by strong and soaring wing. - Jean Paul

Bukit Canberra

Bukit Canberra is an integrated sports and community hub. The hub houses facilities including an indoor sports hall, the largest gym in Singapore and two swimming pools – one sheltered and one outdoor. It also houses a polyclinic, a senior care centre, and a childcare center.

There is also a hawker centre, and several parks nearby. The train station and a shopping mall are five minutes away. All in all, the hub is very convenient for the residents in the area and also for others to get to.

I was there recently with a friend for dinner at the hawker center. It was my first visit to the hub. After dinner, my friend, who lives in the area, gave me a tour of the place. I noticed there is also a cafe and a restaurant in the hub.

According to my friend, the pools and the sports hall are always very busy.

A shopping mall near by.
From the train station. The hub is not very visible in the photo.
A hawker center with lots of open space. Very airy and comfortable.
Interesting creations using used shuttlecocks.

Cheeky Humour

Always laugh when you can. Laughter might not solve your problems, but it will help to take the edge off your difficult moments. Laughter helps you to enjoy life even when you do not have everything you want. And it doesn’t matter if you revel in the coarsest puns or the raunchiest jokes. As long as you are laughing, you keep the doom and gloom at bay.

Enjoy today’s selection of humour. Remember the ones you like, and you can go make your friends laugh. They might not tell you, but they will be thankful to you for that. We all like someone who can make us laugh.

Inspirational, Motivational and Educational Quotes

There will always be moments of anxieties, self-doubts, or moments when we are drained emotionally by the demands in our lives. It is not necessarily anything serious, but times when all we need is a little encouragement and support from the people around us.

When these are not forthcoming, we have to motivate ourselves. Personally, I turn to aphorisms. Reading aphorisms always lifts my spirits. They are motivational, inspirational, educational and there is beauty in words – all very uplifting.

Have a look at the following and see if you agree with me.

Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do. Simply, self-discipline enables you to think first and act afterward. - Napoleon Hill

All we are asked to bear, we can bear. The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it. - Unknown

Enjoy yourself. These are the good old days you’re going to miss in the years ahead. - Unknown

See through the eyes of compassion. Speak with the language of love. - Rumi

Resentments are like stray cats. If you don’t feed them, they go away. - Unknown

Rich people stay rich by living like they’re broke. Broke people stay broke by living like they’re rich. - Unknown

We must not allow other people’s limited perceptions to define us. - Unknown

Rejoice in the things that are present; all else is beyond thee. - Michel De Montaigne

The best thing about the worst time of your life is that you get to see the true colours of everyone you cared for. - Bakare

Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something. - Unknown

Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security. - John Allen Paulos

One of the most freeing things we learn in life is that we don’t have to like everyone, everyone doesn’t have to like us, and it’s perfectly okay. - Unknown

Dancing Clouds

Do the clouds look like they were dancing to you? They certainly look like they were having a great time dancing in the sky to me. Maybe they dance because they were ‘forced’ by the wind to dance. Or maybe it was Mother Nature painting. However, they were most probably results of a natural phenomena that were a result of dependent origination.
And they danced into the night.
“Clouds in the sky very much resemble the thoughts in our minds! Both change perpetually from one second to another!" - Mehmet Murat Ildan

Willpower

Willpower: The control we exert to do something or restrain impulses.

To accomplish anything in life, we need to have willpower – something which we all have. It’s just that some people have stronger willpower and others have weaker willpower.

Most of our goals in life are reachable. But we need strong willpower to carry out the steps to achieve them. And if we want to be successful, we need to focus on our willpower. When we can do that, success will be within reach.

Nothing can withstand the power of the human will if it is willing to stake its very existence to the extent of its purpose. - Benjamin Disraeli

Sickness may challenge your body. But are you merely your body? Lameness may impede your legs. But you are not merely your legs. Your will is bigger than your legs. Your will needn’t be affected by an incident unless you let it. - Epictetus

To the healthy man, difficulties should act as a tonic. They should open us to greater exertion. They should strengthen our willpower. - B. C. Forbes

Willpower is the driving force to all human accomplishments; things exist now that did not exist in the past because somebody focused their will and their concentration on creating something that filled whatever need they saw. Will is what makes the impossible possible. - Michelle Steven

Willpower is concrete, not ethereal. When you do something, you demonstrate your willpower, and it becomes all the easier to have the same power of will the next time. - B. K. S.Iyengar

Willpower is likely the most important keystone habit there is. Willpower has more of an impact on individual success than intelligence, talent or education level. - P. James Holland

Willpower is your ability to set a course of action and say, "Engage!" It is the spearhead of self-discipline. It provides an intensely powerful yet temporary boost. Think of it as a one-shot thruster. It burns out quickly, but if directed intelligently, it can provide the burst you need to overcome inertia and create momentum. - John Aurther

Quote Worthy

Aphorisms teach the best life lessons. They are accumulated wisdom of the ages, teachings of the sages, gurus, philosophers, and people who had experienced and understood what life is about. They are valuable lessons. That is why motivational speakers quote aphorisms in their speeches to inspire and motivate their audience.

Take an interest in aphorisms. Learn the lessons therein. They will help you in understanding more about life. Spend a couple of minutes to think about the following aphorisms.

We have no more right to put our discordant states of mind into the lives of those around us and rob them of their sunshine and brightness than we have to enter their houses and steal their silverware. - Julia Moss Seton

Believe nothing against another but on good authority; and never report what may hurt another, unless it be a greater hurt to some other to conceal it. - William Penn

If we could learn how to balance rest against effort, calmness against strain, quiet against turmoil, we would assure ourselves of joy in living, and psychological health for life. - Unknown

Guard against the prestige of great names; see that your judgments are your own; and do not shrink from disagreement; no trusting without testing. - Lord Acton Dalberg

Whatever you refuse to face consciously, you must suffer unconsciously. All your current suffering is the result of situations you have refused to confront. - Dick Sutphen

Love, friendship, and smiles are like currency. If they are hoarded, no one gets the benefit of them; if they are kept in circulation, everyone benefits, and, again, like money they always accumulate something in transit. - Nellie Revell

Anarchism is founded on the observation that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others. - Edward Abbey

Fantasies are more than substitutes for unpleasant reality; they are also dress rehearsals, plans. All acts performed in the world begin in the imagination. - Barbara Grizzuti Harrison

The Window Seat

When flying, I prefer an aisle seat – especially if it is a long flight. It is more convenient if I had to get up and go for a pee. And I always needed to go at least once. I feel terrible to have to inconvenience the other passengers in the row. I don’t mind it so much if I am on the aisle seat and have to get up to make way for the other passengers. It gives me the opportunity to stretch myself.

The window seat is good for those who can sleep on the plane and those who do not need to go to the toilet often. Anyway, I always asked for an aisle seat. But sometimes none is available and there is nothing I can do about it.

Here are some photos from the window of an airplane taken during one of my recent flights. I didn't capture anything spectacular.
