I had been warned that it is just 'a piece of rock', very touristic, over-rated, and expensive. Despite that, the general consensus was that it is one of those ‘must visit’ places if you are in Spain. So, I was forewarned and I was not really disappointed to discover that all the warnings were true.
Gibraltar is about 2 hours’ drive from Benalmadena. We had a tour along the base of the rock. Lots of shops, souvenir shops, and eateries. Very busy, very touristic and of course, very expensive. We didn't go up to the top of the rock, or the caves, because there was a long queue for the cable cars.
Gibraltar has an interesting history, but as a tourist attraction, there was really not much to see. Maybe I am difficult to please.
