The Sky Over Kukup

Kukup – a fishing village with a difference. The whole village is built on stilts. I spent a weekend there recently with seven friends. It was an interesting weekend. We were lucky with the weather too. It was cloudy most of the time – not too hot, and no rain either.
Lovely skies.
This is a kelong – an offshore wooden platform, where fishermen fish and farm fishes. They usually have simple accommodation so that fishermen can stay the night to keep an eye on the kelong, or to shelter them from the elements.
This is the view of the village from the sea. Life in the village is simple, but not easy. Villagers either fish, or farm for a living. Both depend on the weather for a good harvest.

The other venue of income is from the tourists. The owner of the chalet we were in let on that during the pandemic, they had no business at all. They are happy that things are beginning to pick up again.
