Barringtonia Racemosa

Barringtonia racemosa is also known as powder-puff tree, common Putat, Fish-Killer Tree, Fish-Poison Tree, Freshwater Mangrove, Putat Ayam, Putat Kampong, and Small-Leaved Barringtonia.

It has attractive red and white flowers on long, hanging flowering shoots. The flowers are night-blooming, fragrant and have filamentous stamens that are white, pink or red. They have reddish fruits that resemble figs.

The plant is evergreen and it can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, making it suitable for most sites, in the tropics. They are ornamental and usually seen in parks, gardens and along the roadsides.

The bark and fruits are poisonous. I guess that’s why the birds leave them alone.
