As the most popular flower in the world, besides symbolising love and passion, it is also commonly used to represent beauty, politics and war.
At the floral display, there was information on how Roses can be used to express your feelings for someone special. Here’s a quick guide to help you convey your message without needing to use any words at all. So, if you want to use roses to represent your feelings, don’t use the wrong coloured roses. It could be embarrassing.
Rose Colour Guide
Cream (off white) – Charm / thoughtfulness
Yellow – Joy / Friendship / Happiness
Orange – Desire / Enthusiasm
Salmon Pink – Desire / Excitement
Pink – Grace / Sweetness / Elegance / Admiration
Red – Love / Passion / Beauty
White – Purity / Innocence / Hope / Respect
Deep Pink – Appreciation / Gratitude
Purple – Enchantment / Beauty
Another interesting trivia I picked up from the ‘Rose Romance’ floral display was in regards to the phrase – “Stop and smell the roses”. The saying is a reminder to slow down and be in the present. But, apparently, "the fragrance of roses helps to calm one’s nerves and raise one’s spirits". The aroma from roses is said to be helpful in reducing stress levels and boosting self-esteem! So, there is real benefit in stopping to smell the roses. The next time you come across a rose, stop and smell it. See if that raises your spirit.
A rose smells just as sweet by any other name. I think it was Shakespeare who said that, or something to that effect.
