All Puns Intended

Or simply...

It is a joke or type of wordplay in which similar senses or sounds of two words or phrases, or different senses of the same word, are deliberately confused.

Have a look at the following puns. If there is any one that you do not understand at first read, read through it again and again until you see the humour behind it.

Truisms - Words To Live For

The beauty of Aphorisms is that they are usually fairly simple in words and meaning. However, behind the simple words, and sentences are profound truisms. Unfortunately, it is easy to read the words without really understanding the more profound meaning they convey, missing the point of these ageless aphorisms.

To read and understand aphorisms is not enough. We must also be able to draw parallels and apply them to our life situations. That’s where the usefulness of aphorisms lie; that’s where you find the profound lessons in aphorisms.

Here are some aphorisms for your collection.

Your wound is probably not your fault, but your healing is your responsibility. - Unknown

There’s a story behind every person. There’s a reason why they’re the way they are. Think about that before you judge someone. - Unknown

You cannot give to people what they are incapable of receiving. - Agatha Christie

Sometimes, the best way to solve a problem… is to let go of the idea that there is … a problem. - Unknown

The present moment is the door to all moments. - Thich Nhat Hanh

Relationships get stronger when both are willing to understand mistakes and forgive each other. - Unknown

How others see you is not important. How you see yourself means everything. - Unknown

You’ll end up very disappointed if you go through life thinking people will do for you as you do for them. Not everyone has the same heart like you. - Unknown

One day you’ll look back and realize that you worried too much about things that don’t really matter. - Unknown

People are like books: some deceive you with their cover and others surprise you with their content. - Unknown

Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting of a little water. - Christopher Morley

The deepest sin against the human mind is to believe things without evidence. - Aldous Huxley

Daily Routine

Taking an afternoon walk is a daily routine of mine - weather permitting, of course, and unless I have something else going on for the day. Otherwise, I will take an afternoon walk everyday without fail.

Some people would prefer to take a different route for each of their walks. I, being a guy of routine, am perfectly all right with using the same route. And judging by the number of familiar faces I see on the same walk route every day, I am not the only walker who is happy with using the same route regularly.

Besides, the route is a very nice route. And, using the same route and seeing the familiar faces, I have made several acquaintances. Sometimes, we would walk with each other and have a chat, or we would just wave and exchange greetings as we go about our way. It is nice. The little exchange raises one's spirit, which is what exercising is all about. Not only do we need to exercise our physical body, we must also improve our mental health.

I do make the effort, once in a way, to wander off a side track and see if there is anything interesting. Or, take a different route altogether. But today, this is my regular walk route. Enjoy the pictures.

The Lovi plants are in season again.

Saturday Night Out

I went out for a Birthday Dinner with some friends on Saturday evening. There were five of us in all, including the birthday boy. We have an agreement among ourselves that there would be no presents. We would all chip in to pay for the birthday person's share of the meal. He, or she will also get to pick the restaurant. That is absolutely fine with me, because I hate shopping. I am also easy when it comes to food. I am okay with any type of cuisine.

So, it was the Famous Treasure restaurant, picked by the birthday boy, that we went to last Saturday. As far as I am concerned, it was a good choice. Although it was an hour away by bus, I got a direct bus from my place. Very convenient. Plus, I have never been to the restaurant before, so I get to try out the restaurant.

As is my wont, I usually arrive about half an hour before the appointed time. This gave me the opportunity to have a look around the area to see what is there in the area. I also needed time to look for the place, since it was my first visit.

I had the idea that the restaurant was in this building. I have been there once or twice and seen some eateries there. So I assumed the restaurant was there. I was mistaken. I went to look around the place twice before calling up my friends to ask where the restaurant was. The restaurant is actually in the annex building.

The Famous Treasure restaurant is a Chinese restaurant that serves, according to their advertisement, Nanyang fare. Nanyang literally translates to South or Southern Ocean, which refers to the South East Asia region. It looks new and classy, but it has actually been there for a while.

Chinese dinners are communal dinners, meaning we all share what's on the table. With a group of people deciding on what to order could be a problem. For example some people don't take pork, some don't take beef, while some are allergic to seafood, some are vegetarian etc... Luckily, this group of friends are easy. Anything goes. So, the birthday boy decided and we went with his choice.

And because he was the one deciding, I didn't even get to see the menu, or what was ordered, or the price of the items. So, I don't know if the restaurant was expensive. But from the bill at the end of the day, I would say the prices are quite reasonable, for a place like that right in the town area.

Here are some of the items we consumed. Cockles

duck
Pork with baked garlic
Claypot egg-plant
There was also chicken which I forgot to take a picture of. And there was the birthday cake.

The food was all very nice. No complaints there. The birthday boy and I shared a bottle of very nice red wine, since the others were non drinkers. The company was good - friends of more than 30 years.

Here are some pictures of the surrounding from that evening.
This is the Raffles city. It consists of two hotels and a complex of offices with a shopping mall.
Raffles city at night. It was raining as we ate. By the time we finished, there was just a light drizzle.
All in all, it was a pleasant evening. Certainly something different for a change. I don't usually go out on weekends because everywhere is so busy, and I am not a fan of crowds. However, there wasn't a lot of people about last Saturday. Maybe people are still wary of the pandemic and want to avoid coming out during the weekends.

This coming weekend, four of us in the group and three others who couldn't make it last week, are going for a weekend trip to Malaysia. We shall see how that turns out. I am sure it would be a lot fun.

Art Gallery

I was window shopping with a friend after dinner. We wandered about in the mall, looking at stuff we can't afford and/or, if we could, we wouldn't buy.

We came upon an art gallery, and we went in to have a look. The staff in the shop was very helpful, explaining the art pieces on display. I listened as if I understood what she was saying. But, all the while, I felt I was wasting her time. There were quite a few nice and interesting ones, but we weren't looking to buy any. So, after a quick look and snapping a few pictures, we thanked her and hurried off.

Here are some pictures of the artworks from the gallery. Some are more relatable than others.

This is my favourite, something I understand and can relate to - I mean, something which I see and I understand what it is. What is the artist's idea of doing that and why, of course, only the artist would know. I guess that is why someone is there to explain to us what we are seeing.

This is an interesting piece. The picture changes when you move from side to side. Very clever.
The rest are artworks, or art pieces.
