Heliconias

“Heliconia is a genus of flowering plant in the monotypic family Heliconiaceae. They are also called false bird-of-paradise. The term refers to their close similarity to the bird-of-paradise flowers Strelitzia. Collectively, these plants are also simply referred to as "heliconias". - Information from Wikipedia

“Heliconia flowers can be hues of reds, oranges, yellows, and are subtended by brightly colored bracts. Floral shape often limits pollination to a subset of the hummingbirds in the region.” - Information from Wikipedia

Heliconias are found in tropical regions. Several species are widely cultivated as ornamentals. They are a common sight here, seen in parks and gardens and by the side of the road.
