Know Your Audience

Every now and then, we come across a phrase, or a paragraph which arouses certain emotions in us. Perhaps the particular word, phrase, or paragraph has a special meaning which we can relate to, or it may have aroused some feelings or emotions we experienced in the past. Or it may simply be that it describes something so appropriately, or so beautifully, that we always want to remember it.

The following passage is one of those – for me anyway. Someone posted this on Facebook.

Know Your Audience! It is wise to bear that in mind. We are all different. Or as a friend of mine like to say, we are all wired differently. We think differently, and we have different values. As a race, we try to find a middle ground. We try to work together for the common good. We go about our lives, and try to live in peace and harmony with each other, and try not to kill each other.

However, not all people care about the same things; not all people are civic-minded. Sometimes, peer pressure works, but unless there are laws that dictate a certain conduct, people are inclined to do as they pleased. Some people are a bit lacking in the IQ department, and no amount of reasoning will do any good. They simply do not understand the concept on hand. Their faculty to reason is absent. In situations like this, arguing with a fool proves that there are two. It is better to just leave them alone.

One very good example seen recently, worldwide, is people rushing to stock toilet paper! It’s like there are from a different planet, and they feed on toilet paper. How does one explain the rationale behind this behaviour? Maybe that is not a very good example, but I am sure you get the drift.
