I will talk about our dinner first. Then I will show you pictures of the place.
Woody Family Café specialises in Peranakan food, but they also do western dishes.
We ordered half a dozen of 'normal' buffalo wings. 'Normal' in terms of spiciness. They have 1 to 5 ticks of spiciness. 'Normal' was 2 ticks. Why they call them buffalo wings is a mystery. They were nice, but nothing special.
Lamb shank rendang. This was really good. The lamb was tender, the rendang divine. Absolutely lovely. But it was a tad too spicy for me. My tongue was burning and I was sweating as I ate. I guess I am one of those who does not have a high tolerance for too spicy food. This is Otah - a Peranakan delicacy. It is fish paste mixed with herbs and spices, wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over charcoal. They were nice. And a portion of long grain rice mixed with brown rice. Tiger beer - from the local brewery. This is their set menus - a choice of Wester or Peranakan. Sections of their dining hall. Their little bar counter. The ceilings. What do you think of all the blink blink? And the bits of, I assumed memorabilia. I thought it was 'interesting', to begin with. But, by the time I had my dinner, I thought it was a bit much. A quaint little place indeed. They were quite busy though. I guess they must be doing all right. It is a bit tucked away. But they are the only eatery in the estate and there is a bus that stops outside on the main road. So, they are quite accessible if you know where they are.
