Hibiscus Flower

Hibiscus are hardy, versatile plants and easy to grow. That is why they are common here in the tropics. You can cut a section of a branch and stick it in the soil, water it regularly in the initial stages, but make sure that the soil is water draining. Once it started rooting, it can be left to grow on its own.

Hibiscus are perennials. They bloom throughout the year. The flowers are big, colourful, and trumpet-shaped. They come in colours ranging from white to pink, red, blue, orange, and yellow. Some varieties have multiple layers of petals.

Hibiscus are widely cultivated as ornamental plants for their showy flowers, or used as landscape shrubs. Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds are atrracted to them.

Hibiscus flowers can be processed and used to make tea. Dried hibiscus is edible and can be candied, and used as a garnish, usually for desserts.
