On Life

We all live once. That is to say, we have only one life – a number of years. What we make of it is up to us. But whatever we do, we should be careful not to screw it up. It is not fun living your life in regret, knowing that it could have been a lot better and easier if you hadn't messed up.

Life is difficult at the best of times. For some, it is a constant struggle, day in day out, trying to make ends meet. So, if you are living a good life, be grateful. At the same time, show a bit of understanding and forbearance for those who are struggling.

Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such. - Henry Miller
