Clivia Miniata aka Bush lilies

Clivia miniata, the Natal lily or bush lily, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Clivia of the family Amaryllidaceae.

Clivia miniata has a fleshy, mostly underground stem or rhizome. That is how his clump-forming plant produces new plants - via rhizomes.

The stem produces long, arching, strap-like leaves. The showy, funnel-shaped flowers are produced in an umbel-shaped inflorescence, coloured red, orange or yellow, sometimes with a faint, but very sweet perfume. – Wikipedia

They are widely cultivated as an ornamental, and in shaded landscapes for its attractive, evergreen foliage and showy sprays of flowers.

Visions

Vision is the art of seeing things invisible – the ability to think about, or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. Men of vision, men who could see far into the future are few and far in between.

If you have a vision, you should do something about it. Having a vision and not doing anything about it is only having a dream. But if you commit yourself to your vision and work to realise your vision, you make your dream come true.

When you have vision it affects your attitude. Your attitude is optimistic rather than pessimistic. - Charles R. Swindoll

Create a vision and never let the environment, or other people’s beliefs, or the limits of what has been done in the past shape your decisions. Ignore conventional wisdom. - Tony Robbins

The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps – we must step up the stairs. - Vance Havner

The vision that you glorify in your mind, the Ideal that you enthrone in your heart – this you will build your life by, this you will become. - James Allen

Food For Thought

Words are powerful stuff. They can motivate, inspire and educate us. When I come across words that resonate with me, I will take a note of them and add them to my collection. I have been doing that since my school days. They have taught me a great deal about life. It is great to to be able to understand what the quote says, and equally great to know that someone might have gone through what I am going through and have put it more eloquently.

Spare a few moments to consider the truth behind the following paragraphs.

Consider a man riding a bicycle. Whoever he is, we can say three things about him. We know he got on the bicycle and started to move. We know that at some point he will stop and get off. Most important of all, we know that if, at any point between the beginning and the end of his journey he stops moving and does not get off the bicycle, he will fall off it. That is a metaphor for the journey through life of any living thing, and I think of any society of living things. - William Golding

The power of positive thinking will not turn paraplegics into quarterbacks or the blind into astronomers. But while a leopard cannot change its spots, it can change its habits. Genes may make us susceptible to diabetes, but we can reduce the risk by avoiding obesity. Nature may play a role in lung cancer, but appropriate physical exercise may be a winning card. For in life, as in poker, you do not need a royal flush to be a winner. Sometimes a pair of deuces - a weak hand played well – is plenty. - Unknown

It has been observed that a dwarf standing on the shoulders of a giant will see farther than the giant himself; and the moderns, standing as they do on the vantage ground of former discoveries and uniting all the fruits of the experience of their forefathers, with their own actual observation, may be admitted to enjoy a more enlarged and comprehensive view of things than the ancients themselves. - Charles Caleb Colton

"Impressions of Monet"

Gardens by the Bay (Singapore’s number one attraction) presents ‘Impressions of Monet’, “a multi-sensory exhibition celebrating the art and life of Claude Monet. For the first time at the Gardens, the horticultural and digital meld together in a one-of-a-kind showcase, comprising two elements – a Monet-inspired floral display and a digital experience of his stunning art pieces.” - From their website.

This is happening in the Flower Dome – a flower display and art exhibition. I went to have a look last Thursday. The display was quite impressive. Lots of pretty flowers, information on Monet and also a display of artworks by artists during his era.

Oscar-Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a French painter and founder of impressionism painting who is seen as a key precursor to modernism, especially in his attempts to paint nature as he perceived it. During his long career, he was the most consistent and prolific practitioner of impressionism's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions of nature, especially as applied to plein air (outdoor) landscape painting. - Wikipedia

Frequently exhibited and successful during his lifetime, Monet's fame and popularity soared in the second half of the 20th century when he became one of the world's most famous painters and a source of inspiration for a burgeoning group of artists. - Wikipedia

You can find out more about the exhibition 👉 Here

The display in the Flower Dome is on until the 17th of September.

Aphorisms

Aphorisms are records of the wisdom of peoples’ life experiences. If we take time to examine the words, and keep them in mind, we would surely benefit from the wisdom contained in them. We might be able to save ourselves some disappointment and heartaches.

Life can be difficult at times, and any advice or help we can get will be appreciated. These aphorisms – life lessons, will help us in the Mastery of Life.

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. - Albert Pike

Truth

We all want to know the truth. Sometimes, we demand to know the truth. But the truth can sometimes hurt. And when that happens, we regret knowing the truth. We wished we would never know the truth. Perhaps that is why they say ignorance is bliss.

Sometimes, it is true that what we do not know does not hurt us. The truth might set you free, but it might just make you miserable first. If that were so, would you still want to know the truth?

Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t. - Mark Twain

A lie has speed, but truth has endurance. - Edgar J. Mohn

A truth that disheartens because it is true is of more value than the most stimulating of falsehoods. - Maurice Maeterlinck

Never assume the obvious is true. - William Safir

Piety requires us to honour truth above our friends. - Aristotle

Truth is always hidden like a shadow in darkness. - Unknown

The truth that is suppressed by friends is the readiest weapon of the enemy. - Robert Louis Stevenson

Telling the truth is like taking herbs in lieu of drugs. It does not taste well or cure fast, but it works better in the long term and gives fewer side effects to the patient. - Unknown
