Torremolinos

Torremolinos is another municipality in the province of Malaga on the Costa del Sol. In its early days in the 1950s, Torremolinos was a small fishing village. Now it is one of the main sun and beach tourist destinations in Spain, the first in Andalusia and the Costa del Sol.

“The influx of foreigners, intellectuals, bohemians, hippies, artists, aristocrats, jet-set personalities and tourists in general during the 1960s and 1970s created a liberal, permissive and cosmopolitan atmosphere that set it apart from other areas of the Costa del Sol, becoming one of the major references for music and nightlife, as well as the goal of gay tourism in Spain.” - Wikipedia

Its busy nightlife and hotel offering, together with its beaches make Torremolinos one of the main tourist destinations worldwide on the Costa del Sol. The municipality has almost seven kilometres of coastline and is popular with the British, German, Irish, French, Scandinavian and Spanish tourists from other parts of Spain.

Torremolinos is three train stations away from Benalmadena. Last Sunday, Roger and I took the train to Torremolinos, made our way to the beach and walked back to Benalmadena. It took us about one and a half hours to arrive in Benalmadena, and then we had to make our way up the hill to Arroyo. The afternoon walk – about nine kilometres, took around two hours. It was quite a feat under the hot, and humid summer sun.

This is the Torremolinos square – the first thing you see when you come out of the station, and also the 'center' of Torremolinos. There are many cafes, restaurants, clubs and shops bordering the square.

From the station, we made our way to the beach. The stretch of beach, for as far as you can see, with hotels and apartments, shops and restaurant. Not much difference from the rest of the 150 km of the Costa del Sol.
Restaurants doing good business.
Espetos – You see them and smell them everywhere along the beach restaurants.
The beach has many sections.
A special section for special people.
Nice, even and well maintained walkway. And not too busy too.
