Night Blooming Cereus

There was another bloom from my ‘Queen of the Night’ a couple of evenings ago.

The Epiphyllum Oxypetualum, or commonly called ‘queen of the night’ is one of many varieties of the night blooming Cereus. They are known to be one of the easiest houseplants one could ever dream of growing. The plant that I have now was almost a totally dead twig/branch when I stick it in the pot. It survived, surpassing all my expectations. However, it did took a while to settle in. Understandable under the circumstances.

For a while, there was no sign of it blooming. Due to space limitation, I was going to throw out the plant when it gave signs that it was ready to bloom. Since then, it has been blooming more and more frequently. On occasions, there were four blooms in the same day. Two nights ago, there was another bloom.

It has become a habit of mine to do a post on my Epiphyllum Oxypetualum every time it bloomed. I think it deserved the attention. The flower is so beautiful, and it has such a strong, lovely fragrant. It is a pity that the flower is short-lived. It blooms in the evenings and wilts by the morning. I guess that is why they are called night blooming cereus.
