Quips and Quirks

Life would be dull, and gloomy if people do not have a sense of humour. It is through humour, and laughter, that we soften some of life’s demand on us. And once we can find laughter, no matter how painful the situation might be, we can survive it.

Cultivate, and develop your sense of humour because it is when things are not going well that you need your humour the most.

Cloudspotting III

Another cloudspotting. That’s what you do when you have time on your hands. Since I was on holiday, I had plenty of that - time that is.

Sometimes, my patience paid off. Like, in the following photos, I was able to capture the the clouds during sunset. Quite spectacular scenes – especially the first four shots, beautiful cloud formations and crepuscular rays. They are quite awesome, if I may say so.

Cloudspotting II

More cloudspotting from Roger’s balcony.

Clouds are an important part of the Earth’s weather. And, if there is anything that is ever changing, it is the weather. There are days of clear blue sky, and days of cloudy skies. Even within the day, sometimes an hour, a minute, there are a lot of changes in the skies. That is why cloudspotting is never dull.

Some photos of clouds observed over several days.

Cloudspotting

Cloud spotting from Roger’s balcony. Cloudspotting – the observation of clouds as a recreational activity.

It was clear blue skies on some days. Then, there were days when there were little bits of fluffy clouds floating by. Some will join up with others, while some will vaporise in the atmosphere.

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water. Or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” - John Lubbock

Letting People Go

Not all people we know can be with us throughout our lives. Many people believe that there is a reason for people coming into our lives, and that they will leave when they have served their purposes.

So, it is perfectly all right to let people in your life go when you feel that they are not helping you in your life, but are also keeping you from advancing.

We don’t need negative, unappreciative people in our lives. They hinder our progress. We need people who can help us become better people, successful people.

In our course through life we shall meet the people who are coming to meet us, from many strange places and by many strange roads and what it is set to us to do to them, and what it is set to them to do to us, will be done. - Unknown

Stop holding onto people who keep letting go of you. Pay attention to the faithful people. The ones you don’t have to impress. The ones who always have your back. The ones that love you with no strings attached. - Unknown

Let go of people who dull your shine, poison your spirit, and bring you drama. Cancel your subscription to their issues. - Unknown

If people don’t make an effort to be in your life, don’t try so hard to be in theirs; It’s not worth it. - Unknown

Surround yourself with the right people; people who are on the move, focused, determined and ambitious to achieve more! - Unknown

Some people have a wonderful presence, others, a wonderful absence. - Unknown

The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds; the people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too; the people that love you, simply for being you. - Unknown

Some people want to see everything go wrong for you because nothing is going right for them. - Unknown

The sad truth is that there are some people who will only be there for you as long as you have something they need. When you no longer serve a purpose to them, they will leave. The good news is, if you tough it out, you’ll eventually weed these people out of your life and be left with some great friends you can always count on. - Unknown

There are some people you like immediately, some whom you think you might learn to like in the fullness of time, and some that you simply want to push away from you with a sharp stick. - Douglas Adams

Dinner On The Balcony II

Roger and I take turns to cook dinner – when we are not dining out. He cooks western dishes, whereas I cook Chinese dishes. I am not a very good cook. Luckily, Roger is easy going and he doesn’t mind too much.
I use ready made pastes for some of my meat dishes. Empty the paste into the pot, add in the meat, cook, boil, simmer and viola, the dish is ready. If it is not good, it’s not my fault. Blame it on the paste.
Vegetables are stir-fried. Some dishes I do all right with, but there were a few failed attempts.

Dinner On The Balcony

The advantage of a home-stay holiday is that you do not have to eat out every meal, which can take up a big part of the travel expenses. So, while staying with Roger, I didn’t eat out every day. Sometimes, we cook a simple meal at home, and have dinner on the balcony, while watching the sun set.

At that time of the day, Swifts squeal and seagulls cry as they hunt for whatever is out there in the sky. It was all very pleasant.

Here are some of the dishes Roger cooked.
