Recycling in Benalmadena

In Benalmadena, there are recycle bins and containers on the streets, and street corners – all within a short walking distance.

The bins are colour coded so that people will know what waste goes into which bin.

Yellow is for plastic, and tin containers.
Blue is for paper.
Green is for glasses.
Orange is for domestic waste.
In some areas, there are red containers for hazardous wastes such as batteries, insecticides, aerosol cans etc…

These bins look small. But, these are just the top portion, where you lift the cover to dump your rubbish. The containers are underground. There is a mechanical switch which lifts up the whole platform, so that workers can empty the rubbish into the trucks.

However, recently, we found that there were times when the bins were so full we had to go elsewhere to throw the rubbish. Either they haven’t benn collecting the rubbish often enough, or there’s been an increase of rubbish.
