Dinner In Chinatown

The food business in Chinatown is very competitive. Apart from two hawker centers within walking distance of each other, there are numerous coffee shops and restaurants. My friends and I usually go to the hawker center or one of the coffee shops where food are authentic and very reasonably priced. Rarely do we go to restaurants. They, being right in a tourist area, are understandably more expensive.

The Chinatown hawker center is our favourite. It is very accessible – near to the bus stops and not too far from the train station. The Maxwell market hawker center is also convenient with the new train station just beside it.

These are some of the food stalls in the Chinatown hawker center. The place is quite big, and there are hundreds of these stalls. First timers to the place get lost in there going around, looking for food.

These are food stalls in the Maxwell Market center. Besides local food, there are also stalls selling cuisines from other countries.
Both the hawker centers are promoted in travel sites as places to go to for cheap, authentic local food.

A sample of one of our meals – simple, cheap and good.

There are many of these restaurants in Chinatown. My friends and I have been to a couple of them. We find that expensive and the food is not all that good.
