Out And About In Little India

Deepavali – The Festival of Lights is just round the corner. So, my friend and I thought we would go down to Little India to have a look at the decorations and lights and to soak in the festive atmosphere. The intention was to go and have a walk around the area, then have dinner at one of the Indian restaurants. After dinner, the lights would have come on, and we could take some pictures of the lights on display. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go according to plan.

Our first stop was the Deepavali market. I thought it would be very busy, but it was not. The market was quite disappointing. There were only a few stores. One glance and you can take everything in. And the stores were not very interesting.

After that, we went in search of food. Since it was still quite early, we thought we would scout around for a nice restaurant. Unfortunately, we got a bit distracted and we had wandered off in the wrong direction. In the end, we decided we would go back to Little India and catch the lights another time.

Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the place taken during our visit.

Disappoining night market. Although it was early and I wasn't expecting a crowd, I had expected the place to be grander.

The central streets of Little India are packed with stalls selling all sorts of Indian goods – goldsmith shops, sari stores, tailors, flower-garland vendors, fruits and vegetables and Indian restaurants and eateries...
Here are some pictures of the surroundings.
It is unfortunate that we didn’t get to see the lights. They would have been quite a sight.
