Year-end Get-together

The end is near – I meant end of year 2023. Less than two days and we will be in a New Year! Are you getting ready for the countdown party?

For yours truly, it will be just another day. Nothing to get excited about.

However, I did get together with some friends (the usual suspects) on Wednesday and enjoyed a very nice home-cooked meal by our dear friend Ernest. The dear man prepared a feast for us.

The ‘party’ started at 3pm with snacks and tea. Since it was a workday, not all could come at that time. However, everyone was there by 6pm. There were eight of us – including the host.

These were the result of the host’s labour.

A light snack to keep us going until meal time.

This is dinnner proper. Some Swiss bread

A home-made salad of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes and, of course, home-made dressing.

Mixed cheese platter with almonds, blueberries and wafer crackers

Cold cuts platter of duck terrine, prosciutto and smoked duck

Pan-fried mixed seafood – prawns, scallops and squids

Beef Bourguignon

Duck Confit

Some spaghetti noodles

Fruits and dessert after the meal...

And a very nice apple crumble.

Needless to say, there were spirits – beers and wines. Besides the fruits and the apple crumble, and the spirits, the rest of the food was prepared by, and a treat from Ernest.

Needless to say too, we all had a jolly good time. As with all our gatherings, there were always plenty of – besides food, lots of laughter. Ah! the little pleasures of life – good company, a good laugh, lots to eat – and drink. What more could one ask for?
