Some interesting fun facts about insects – courtesy of Facebook pages ‘All About Animals’, ‘Strangest Facts’, ‘David Attenborough’, 'Plant Care Today' etc… However, I do not know if they are true. Some of them sound really incredible.

This is the CECROPIA MOTH CATERPILLAR - North America's Giant Caterpillar!

The Cecropia Moth Caterpillar is the larval stage of the Cecropia moth, the largest native moth in North America. Its bright green body is covered with colorful blue, yellow, and orange tubercles that make it look both strange and beautiful

These giant caterpillars spend most of their time feeding on the leaves of trees such as maple, cherry, birch, and apple. As they grow, they can reach over 4 inches (10 cm) in length before transforming into a cocoon.

After metamorphosis, they emerge as enormous Cecropia moths with wingspans reaching up to 7 inches (18 cm)!

FROM OAXACA TO THE WORLD: THE REMARKABLE HONEY ANT

In parts of Oaxaca, Mexico, a fascinating insect known as the honey ant is treasured for the sweet liquid stored inside its enlarged abdomen. Locally called Chindudis and by several other regional names, these unique ants collect nectar from flowers and store it as a food reserve within their bodies.

Unlike honeybees, which store honey in a hive, honey ants use specialized worker ants as living storage containers. Their abdomens gradually expand as they accumulate sweet nectar gathered from the surrounding landscape.

These remarkable insects are commonly found in dry regions, particularly within communities of the Mixteca area. The sweet liquid they contain can vary in flavor depending on the flowers and plants from which the nectar originated, creating a unique taste experience.

That window of 3 to 7 days is not just a delay. It is a full ambush already in progress. The leaf-footed bug does not eat the fruit itself — not really. It uses its needle-like mouth to inject a cocktail of microbes deep into the soft tissue, then moves on.

The real destruction is outsourced. Fungi and bacteria take the handoff and spread through the wet, sugary flesh while the skin above stays completely unbothered. No bruise. No give. No signal. The fruit has already been hollowed out by the time anything on the outside finally admits it.
