There is so much in the deep sea that we are unaware of. Here are some trivia, fun facts on the creatures of the sea, courtesy of Facebook pages ‘Strangest Facts’, ‘Planet Raw’, ‘David Attenborough’, 'Plant Care Today' etc… However, I do not know if they are true. Some of them sound really incredible.
The electric eel drifts through chocolate-brown water where visibility ends six inches from your face. It can't see much either. But it doesn't need to.
Along most of its eight-foot body runs something like a biological radar installation — stacks of muscle cells that stopped contracting millions of years ago and learned to pulse electricity instead. Weak signals at first, just ten volts, sending out ripples through the water the way a bat sends sound through a cave. Humphead wrasses patrol Indo-Pacific reefs like slow-moving bruisers, using hard beak-like teeth to crack open shellfish, sea urchins, and crown-of-thorns starfish, one of coral’s nastiest enemies.
That matters because crown-of-thorns outbreaks can chew reefs down to pale rubble. The wrasse is not just eating dinner. It is doing maintenance on a city built by coral.
Then comes the transformation. Every humphead wrasse starts female, and some later become massive males, growing greener, heavier, and crowned with that famous forehead hump.

Every night, this fish wraps itself in a blanket made from its own slime. It sounds like something invented for a science fiction movie. But on coral reefs across the tropics, parrotfish perform this bizarre ritual almost every evening.
As darkness falls and predators begin to patrol the reef, the parrotfish settles into a crevice and starts secreting a transparent mucus cocoon from glands near its mouth. Within minutes, the fish is completely enclosed inside a thin gelatinous bubble that surrounds its body like an invisible sleeping bag.
For years, scientists wondered why. The answer appears to be surprisingly clever.
Many reef predators hunt using scent rather than sight. The mucus cocoon may help mask the chemical signals released by the sleeping fish, making it much harder for nocturnal hunters to detect its location. Some studies also suggest the cocoon acts as a barrier against blood sucking parasites that become active at night.
In other words, the parrotfish doesn't lock a door before bed. It builds an entirely new bedroom. The fish then spends the night resting safely inside its slippery shield while the reef transforms into a very different world around it. Moray eels emerge from hiding places. Sharks cruise through the darkness. Crustaceans crawl across the coral.
Yet inside its transparent bubble, the parrotfish sleeps.
By sunrise, the cocoon is abandoned and the fish returns to its daily routine as one of the reef's most important workers. Parrotfish spend much of their lives scraping algae from coral surfaces with their powerful beak like teeth, helping prevent reefs from being smothered by fast growing algae. Many species even produce sand as a result of digesting coral rock, contributing to the beautiful tropical beaches people enjoy around the world.
