Birthday Tea cum Dinner

The usual suspects – six mates, gathered to celebrate a birthday last Saturday.
Noodles represent longevity in the Chinese culture. So, there will always be noodles on a birthday. But, we are ‘modern Chinese’. We are not really a stickler of traditions. It was more for the ‘fun’ of it.

So, instead of the ‘longevity noodles’ used on such occasions, we used ‘mee pok’, a yellow noodle that is thicker than the normal yellow noodles. The noodles were fried with seafood and ‘pak choy’ – a leafy vegetable. A different kind of noodle, but the idea and significance are there.

So we had noodles, which was very nice, for tea. After that, we had a birthday cake to go with our coffee and tea.

For dinner, there were cold cuts - smoked duck, duck terrine and cheese. There was Tuscan chicken, and pan fried pork chops serve with mushroom sauce. There was salad, butter rice, and a selection of bread.

Both the chicken and pork chops were absolutely delicious. Kudos to the chef, who always try to do something different for our get together.

After dinner there were fruits – dragon fruit, jack fruit, mangoes and apples.

As with all such occasions when we get together, it was a day of non-stop eating, and drinking. In between meals, there were sweets and munches. The simple pleasure of an afternoon with good mates, plenty of good food, and lots of laughter. There should be more of such days in one’s life!
