A Day Of Merriment

The table was set - complete, with conifer cones for a touch of flair.

My first get-together of the year - and on the first day of the new year too! What a way to start the new year! As with most of our group’s gatherings, it was at our friend, Ernest’s house. Ernest loves to cook and to entertain. We all look forward to catching up at his place. Unfortunately, we are still under Covid restrictions. Only five people are allowed per household. It would have been a lot jollier if the rest of the gang could join us.

There is another advantage to gathering at someone’s home. We could take our time, and stay as long as we want, without service staff hovering by impatiently hinting, not too discreetly that it is time to buzz off. We can also be as boisterous as we want without people frowning in their disapproval. It is absolutely super!

As with previous gatherings, it was a day of food and drinks. We started off with a late lunch at half past one.

There was a cheese and cold cuts platter, freshly baked Focaccia bread, and baked chicken, broccoli and mushroom rice. Everything tasted as good as they looked. Very nice indeed.

After lunch there were pastries and snacks and bites, coffee and tea, as we catch up with what’s happening in our lives as well as what’s happening in the world.
For dinner, there was some green salad, more cheese platter, and pan fried salmon in cream cheese sauce. It was while I was dishing out the last portion of the salmon, that someone said I didn’t take a picture. (So, here’s a picture of the salmon dish with the last serving of salmon.) The salmon dish was very nice. The cream cheese sauce was divine.
Since there was plenty of rice left from the afternoon, we finished that off. There was supposed to be another dish of pork cutlet in red wine sauce. But we all agreed that it would be way too much food.

After dinner, there were fruits and there was ice-cream too. We all felt totally stuffed by the end of the day.

All too soon, we had to call it a night. It was half past nine when the party broke up. We all had a marvelous time!
