Reflection Hunters

"Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice." - Anonymous

A young lad looking at his phone. His reflection on the marble seat will be my entry for this week’s Reflection Hunters Contest.

Seated at the edge of the bench, his body blocked the light from the outside, resulting in a nice reflection on the bench.

The rest of the pictures are reflections of the immediate area and ceiling lights on the marble seats.

A Different Route

I had a nice walk on a different route the other day. Although I have a very nice regular walk route, I like to take a different route once in a while. A change of scenery, if you like. I have walked this route a few times before, so it is not a totally new route to me.

Here are some pictures from that walk.

This is a neighbouring block of apartments, with a children’s playground.

These are new apartments in the area.
A condominium.
A fire station.
Some wild Cayratia mollissima. These are drying up.
A light rail train station.
Some very posh town-houses.
A temple of the Goddess Guan Yin
It was a nice day for a walk. But towards the end of the walk, I saw some dark clouds heading my direction. But it didn’t rain.

Pigeons

"A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed." - Ansel Adams

I happen to have such a photograph. I like this picture immensely. It has got a great composition. The picture shows two pigeons taking a sip of water in a puddle after the rain. In itself, I feel that is already a great picture. Besides that, in the puddle is the reflection of the apartments above. Featured in the photo are also clear shadows of the pigeons. To me, all these add up to a fine photo.

Someone has been feeding these pictures. They are discouraged from doing that. In fact, there is a $500 fine for people caught feeding them. But you have to catch them first.

They are perhaps well meaning folks, but these pigeons make a mess of the area - as you can see in the pictures.

It is not too bad if it is in a grass patch.

Shadow Hunting

The brighter the light, the deeper the shadow. - Jay Kristoff

I am not sure what you call this – stop posts? Stoppers? You find them at road junctions and pedestrian crossings. They indicate to pedestrians and cyclists to slow down and be aware of oncoming traffic. My entry for this week’s shadow contest will be the shadows of these ‘stop posts’. Beautiful sharp shadows.

Spider Lilies

"If you want the flowers in your garden to be glorious and to smell good, you must risk an occasional stink." - Unknown
This is the white spider lily. They are perennials and are quite common around here. But, although they are called lilies, they are not a true lily.

Spider lily is the common name for a number of different plant species within the family Amaryllidaceae. There are also red spider lilies, golden lilies and other varieties of spider lilies. Those are not so common here.

The name Spider lily comes from the flower which looks like spider legs.

Spider lilies are bulb plants.

Aphorisms

Aphorisms are short sayings intended to express a general truth. They are statements of truth or opinion expressed in a concise and witty manner. Aphorisms often come with a pinch of humour, which makes them more appealing to the masses. The term is often applied to philosophical, moral, and literary principles.

The following images are taken from Facebook pages and What'sapp messages.

Neighbourhood Cats

These are cats I see in the neighbourhood. They look well fed, and I had wondered if they belong to someone or has someone been feeding them.

The mystery was solved. One day, I saw an old lady feeding the cat I called Patches. After that she ambled along calling out, presumably to the other cats in the area. Since then, I have seen her a few times, at the void deck, at about the same time calling out to the cats.

Kudos to the old lady who has trouble walking. She had to use the trolley for support as she walked.
