Espiga has been around for about fifteen years. They seem to be always busy which makes them one of the more successful restaurants in the area.
I see a few reasons why they are doing well.
They are open throughout the day, while other restaurants close between 2.30pm and 5.00pm during siesta time. This allows them to provide a continued service.
The street they are on is quite busy. This gives them more exposure and quite a bit of passing trade. The street, a little off the main street means that they get some spillover of the tourist trade.
They have the advantage of having more space if needed, by setting up tables beyond their premises when the neighbouring shops close in the evening.
They treat their customers well, always giving something extra. When we dine with them, they almost always give us a free drink at the end of the evening.
Their food is good, and the price is very reasonable. The waiter, who is also the owner’s son, is friendly and looks after us well. All ingredients for a successful restaurant are there.
This is the reason why Annie, Roger’s friend, suggested that they should support the restaurant by going there once a fortnight, even though there are hundreds of restaurants within walking distance.
They have the advantage of extending their table space right down the row of shops which closes in the evening – if they needed the extra space. I have tried their salmon, beef stew and minute steak. All very nice.
