A Wander in the Mall

Since the weather was not conducive for a visit to the Sky Park, my friend and I decided to have a wander in the mall at the Marina Bay Sands instead.

The mall, of course, is flashy. You find all the high end brands here. The rental must be enormous. One wonders how the businesses are able to make money. Probably that is why shops change hands so often. There are always shop spaces under renovation.

The Covid-19 pandemic has dealt the shops a big blow. The scene at the mall, although slightly better now, was a pale comparison to what it was before the Covid-19 days.

The Rain Oculus. This amazing water feature/sculpture is located between the entrance to the Shoppes and the Waterfront. It's basically just a waterfall from the roof but it's fun to watch.

We do not know what time the waterfall comes on, so we thought we would get a table nearby and have a coffee as we wait for the water to fall, so we can experience it up close.

An original Vanilla ice blended, on the left, and a Mocha ice blended.

We finished our coffee, said what needed to be said to each other and still, the water didn't flow. We gave up and went on our way.

The Rain Oculus is an acrylic and metal bowl like structure that measures 22 metres wide and 5.2 metres deep. The water, which is collected rain, spins around the bowl then flows, through a hole in the bottom, falls 2 stories to the water feature below, where a canal runs through the length of the mall. Sampan rides on the canal are available for guests and shoppers at the shopping mall.

A lights interactive - a favourite with the children, and some who are not too young.

Children chasing the fishes. Sensor boards detect movement and the lights react accordingly.

As we wandered on, we came upon Gordon Ramsey's restaurant.

This is the view from the street. It looks like quite a big restaurant. I am curious to know how the restaurant is doing.

There are a few other celebrity chef restaurants in the mall. Since I am not a foodie, and wouldn't consider dining in one, I didn't pay very much attention to them.

Here is a picture of the Rain Oculus from my previous visit.
