El Cao Cafe and Bar

Roger and I went to El Cao Cafe Bar for dinner on Monday. It was my first visit, but Roger had been there with his friends.

El Cao is literally tucked away in a corner of the Plaza De La Tribuna, or the fountain square, as is known to the expats.

There are about half a dozen restaurants in the square. It is conveniently situated with a nice courtyard. The place is very popular with expats and tourists as seen by the early crowd. Tourists and expats dine early. Locals dine as late as half past ten or later.

The first time we went El Cao, we couldn’t get a table. We didn’t want to wait for a table so we left. We were lucky this time. And just in time too. The other empty table was quickly occupied.

On their menu, they have tapas, medium and full meal servings. When we ordered our food, the waitress suggested that we should go for the medium serving instead of the full meal. She reckons the full portions would be too much for us.

We went with her suggestion and she was right. The medium serving was just nice for us. Now, that is what I call good service. Instead of trying to get you to order more and make money out of you, she recommended what she thought was the right portion for us.

We would definitely go back there again, if they have a table for us.

They serve a side dish of chips instead of olives like some local restaurants do. But then, they are said to be serving Argentinian food.
I had the Goulash which was very nice.
Roger had the Chicken in leak sauce. He said it was very nice too.
El Cao is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a two hour break from 4pm to 6pm. Their kitchen is open until 11pm – meaning you can place your orders up till before 11pm.
