Digital Light Canvas

This used to be an ice-skating rink. It is now a Digital Light Canvas with a 14m tall light sculpture. It has more than 400,000 coloured LED lights hanging from the ceiling, with an interactive LED floor.
Visitors can immerse in an imaginative world of digital art, and "interact with its elements through an unprecedented union of two highly dynamic technologies" - technologies too complicated for me to grasp. So, I will let you find out for yourself. Just follow the links below.

Here's a video I took. The children were clearly entertained - and some adults too.

The Yardbird

The Yardbird is an American restaurant/bar on the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade.

My mates and I had just had a walk along the promenade. It was time for dinner. We thought we would try something different this time - go to a restaurant we have never been to before.

Yardbird happened to be in view. Since none of us have dined there before, we decided to give it a try.

We were a little surprised by their prices. But, since we decided to try something different, we let it be.

A craft beer from SweetWater brewery. It tasted a bit bitter when I first drank it. I think craft beer usually tastes a bit different from regular pilsner beer. I didn't mind at all. My experience has been that every time I had a different beer, it tasted different. But after a while, I will get used to the taste and it will be all right. And it was the case with the Sweet Water craft beer. I think it went very well with the burger.

There were three of us at the dinner. One of my mates had the Tea braised Beef Feather Blade. It was nice but very rich. I don't think I would be able to finish the portion by myself.

Another mate and I had the 'Great American Burger'. It was the most expensive burger I have had in my life. But I must say it was quite good. Expensive, but at least the quality was there. And what was in the burger? - short rib, brisket and chuck blend, double patty, house-smoke pork belly, cheese, pickles... and the buns were soft and smooth. Just lovely!

There was a guy at the next table. I took a picture of his meal discreetly. He had the 'Chicken 'n' watermelon 'n' waffles'. I had originally wanted to go for that. But I had a feeling that it would be too much for me. True enough. Just look at the chicken. It's a whole chicken! The waffles and watermelons would have done me nicely.

All in all, it was an experience. But certainly not something I can afford to do everyday, nor every week, nor every month. I will have to wait for the next blue moon.

Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade

The Marina Bay waterfront promenade is a 3.5 kilometres walkway. It is a lovely place for a walk. The best time to go there would be in the late afternoon or early evening. You can take a walk before the sun goes down, then go to one of the eateries or restaurants nearby for a bite, and then continue the walk in the evening - if that is not too much for you.

You will be treated to a sight of amazing and unique buildings and architectures. In the evening, with the lights on, the scene is transformed. It is even more beautiful.

The best thing about it all, it is open 24/7 to the public free of charge.

This week, I will show you the scene in the afternoon. Come by next week to see what the Marina Bay Waterfront promenade is like in the evenings.

Two weeks ago, this was an open space with a stage and live performances. Now, they have transformed the place. I tried to look for signs which will tell me what it is going to be, but I couldn't find any. I believe it has something to do with the F1 formula this weekend. Probably some Food and beverage place. It is going to be a busy weekend in Singapore.

The Louis Vuitton store. "The first Maison concept store to open in Southeast Asia, and only the fifth in the world. Housed in a standalone glass and crystal pavilion at the Marina Bay Sands (the other ones home to mega clubs Avalon and Pangea), its nautical-inspired exterior and interior are a sight to behold. It opened to much fanfare with the likes of Cate Blanchett and Chow Yun-Fat gracing the ceremony." 👉 Source
Palm tree alley. I vaguely remember there is a story behind these palm trees. I must take a closer look, the next time I am there to see if I can find any signs or plague with the story behind the palm trees being there.
One of three Apple stores in Singapore. The store is entirely surrounded by water.

Truisms

Having taken an interest in Aphorisms, and ‘Words of Wisdom’ from a very young age, I believe the larger part of my life’s education comes from them. I believe that schools should include the study of Aphorisms in their curriculum. Perhaps then, there will be more adjusted people, and the world might be a better place. What do you think?

Aphorisms teach the best life lessons. This is because they embody a general truth, or astute observations. And they often come with a pinch of humour, which makes them more appealing to the masses. Philosophers, sages, gurus and writers are remembered for their famous aphoristic statements.

Here are some truisms for your collection. All the images were created on Canva.com

From The Flower Dome

There is a place in Singpapore where it is eternal Spring. That’s the Flower Dome in the Gardens by the Bay. In the Dome, the temperature is maintained at maintained at 23C to 25C so that it is perpetual spring in the dome.

In their countries where they originated, the plants would have to endure long periods of dry, hot summers or droughts. In the Dome, they enjoy Spring weather throghout the year.

The climate in the Flower Dome is also suitable for growing a wide variety of plants from semi-arid and arid regions around the globe.

Here are some of the plants and flowers from the Flower Dome. With a bit of help from Google lens, I was able to identify the plants and flowers.

Anigozanhos flavidus also known as yellow kangaroo paws

Adenanthos sericeus also known as woolly bush
Aeonium arboreum, a succulent plant also known as Irish rose
Alyssum flower
Camellia rose
Freesia flower
Haemanthus albiflos
Fake bird of paradise flower
Aria Babylon Eyes rose - a hybrid of the Persian rose (Rosa persica)
Silver Ragworts also known as Dusty miller
Peach blossoms
“Don’t strew me with roses after I'm dead. When Death claims the light of my brow, no flowers of life will cheer me. Instead, you may give me my roses now!” - Thomas F. Healey
