Garcinia subelliptica, also known as Happiness Tree, is a tree with a compact conical crown. The leaves are smooth and glossy. The flowers are small, greenish cream coloured and develop into yellow fleshy fruit after pollination. The fruits are edible and resemble persimmons in colour and texture.

They are evergreen and perennial plants, growing well in full sunlight. Therefore, you find them in tropical climates, and are quite common around here. In some places, the Garcinia subelliptica are planted as both a windbreak as well as firebreak.
