Quote Worthy

Having taken an interest in Aphorisms, and ‘Words of Wisdom’ from a very young age, I believe the larger part of my life’s education comes from them. I think schools should include the study of Aphorisms in their curriculum.

Aphorisms teach the best life lessons. This is because they embody a general truth, or astute observations. And they often come with a pinch of humour, which makes them more appealing to the masses. Philosophers, sages, gurus and writers are remembered for their famous aphoristic statements.

Here are some aphorisms for your collection.

A blind man knows he cannot see, and is glad to be led, though it be by a dog; but he that is blind in his understanding, which is the worst blindness of all, believes he sees as the best, and scorns a guide. - Samuel Butler

The only thing a person can ever really do is keep moving forward. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future. - Alyson Noel

If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work. - Thich Nhat Hanh

What allows us, as human beings, to psychologically survive life on earth, with all of its pain, drama, and challenges, is a sense of purpose and meaning. - Barbara De Angelis

He who understands you is greater kin to you than your own brother. For even your own kindred neither understand you nor know your true worth. - Kahlil Gibran

We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once, before a word has been spoken. - Fydor Dostoevsky

Not to have control over the senses is like sailing in a rudderless ship, bound to break to pieces on coming in contact with the very first rock. - Mahatma Gandhi

The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong. - Laura Ingalls Wilder

We gain nothing by being with such as ourselves. We encourage one another in mediocrity. I am always longing to be with men more excellent than myself. - Charles Lamb

The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity. - Mohandas K. Gandhi
