Allamanda Cathartica aka Yellow Bell

Allamanda Cathartica, also known as the yellow bell flower is a tropical shrub or vine. They are quite common around here, presumably because the climate is suitable - there is plenty of sun and rich, well-drained soil, which is what they like.

Yellow bells are perennial plants. They bloom throughout the year. Flowers come into bloom in groups of two or three. They are bright yellow and shaped like a bell. I suppose that’s where they got their name – yellow bell flower. They can grow from cuttings and are rapid growers. Their vines are usually pruned to form a short flowering shrub.

I took these pictures after the rain. You can still see the raindrops on the flowers.
