Paya Lebar Quarter

“Paya Lebar Quarter is located within the culture-rich neighbourhood of Paya Lebar. Inspired by this connected culture, we celebrate the idea of 'living fabric' - bringing to life historic and cultural nuances of the precinct and surrounding sites.” - 👉 Source

Paya Lebar Quarter aims to be next generation living, now. “Everything you need to live, work and play is seamlessly integrated into one place, allowing you to pick the experiences you want and create the lifestyle you dream of.” - 👉 Source

Here are some pictures of the place.

The Paya Lebar train station is beside the Paya Lebar Quarter. You walk out of the station and there is the Paya Lebar Quarter. Very convenient.
I don’t know if this is considered a ‘cardboard shop’.

Popular eateries. They seem to do brisk business as they are always busy.

Monday Blues

Do you suffer from Monday blues? What are Monday blues anyway? Monday blues is a term used to describe the negative feelings you had on a Monday. After a two day break, some people dread going back to work – especially if they do not like their job.

People who like their job usually do not have Monday blues. In fact, they look forward to going back to work.

Although it is not a medical illness, Monday blues are very real. I suffered badly from it in my younger days. Luckily, that is all behind me.

If you do suffer from Monday blues, understand that it is better to face up to it and get on with the day instead of dragging yourself about and feeling gloomy. Anyway, here is some humour to help you get over your Monday blues. Have a laugh, relax and tackle the week head-on.

The following images are taken from Facebook pages, and Whatsapp messages.

A Raining Afternoon

This was on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. It was still drizzling after having drizzled the past three days. It was one of the longest rainy periods I could remember. Anyway, failing to get a snack indoors at the food court, my friend and I went out to see if the rain had stopped. There was still a light drizzle.

We decided to head for the cafe in the ArtScience museum. They were busy too. But we didn’t have to wait for long before a table became available.

I had a mushroom Quiche and a cup of tea. It was just what I needed. The Quiche was very nice and the hot tea warmed the body somewhat.

After the snack, we had a quick tour of the lower levels of the ArtScience museum. We didn’t actually see what was on exhibit. We were going somewhere else to meet up with some friends.

Window Shopping

A friend and I were going to take a stroll along the Marina bay promenade. Unfortunately, it was raining when we arrived. To keep out of the rain, we roamed the mall and did some window shopping.

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is one of Singapore's largest luxury shopping malls. Only the most premium and high quality brands are on display.

It is good that the crowds are back. Good for the businesses but not so good for people like me and my friend. During the pandemic times, we used to roam the mall with hardly any people about. Now you can’t take a picture without someone walking into the scene.

The food court was very busy. We thought we could get a snack and a cup of coffee. But seeing the crowd in the food court, we decided to try somewhere else.

The TWG cafe had a queue.
There was a queue to buy coffee powder.
We see people in the shops, where before, they were empty.

'Reunion Dinner'

Every year, during Chinese New Year, friends from overseas return to celebrate with their family and friends. Their stay is short – only one to two weeks. And there are many things to do and people to catch up with. For our group, we usually take time off to have at least one dinner together. We called it our reunion dinner.

This year, instead of the usual restaurant that we went to, we tried a new place – a ‘Tze Char’ stall in one of the coffee shops near the residence of one in the group. It was recommended by him. He had dined there recently and felt that the food was good and cheap.

Since neither of the rest had any other suggestion or recommendation, we all agreed to give the stall a try. This was a couple of nights ago – on Wednesday. There were eight of us.

I was a bit uncomfortable taking pictures of the food. You see, none in the group except one is on social media. They wouldn’t understand my obsession with taking pictures. Plus, that meant they have to wait for me to take a picture first before they eat. Some might find it annoying. Luckily, my friend on social media took some hurried shots of some of the dishes for me so I could use them.

These were the dishes.

Steamed fish

Cereal, butter prawns
Mixed hot plate dish
Yam ring
And some noodles
There were two or three other dishes that escaped the photographer – the new year prosperity toss, pork ribs and one other dish that kept us guessing what it was. Anyway, they were all very nice and there were no complaints.
