The Botanical Gardens

This is the final installment of my post on my recent visit to the Botanical Gardens in Singapore.

Established in 1859 by the Agri-Horticultural Society, the Singapore Botanical gardens is the oldest garden in Singapore. It is also the first UNESCO Heritage Site in Singapore. As such, it is one of the main attractions of Singapore - popular with tourists as well as the locals.

In the early mornings, groups of seniors gather to exercise and practice their Chi Kong, or Tai Chi moves in the fresh morning air. The big open space of the garden is ideal for this. In the evenings, the more energetic younger ones jog or brisk-walk.

Here are some photos of the garden’s surroundings.

There are many entry points to the Botanical gardens. This is the Tanglin Gate. The metal gates of the Tanglin gate entrance are embellished with motifs inspired by the woody climber, Phanera kockiana.

An iconic Clock Tower at the ‘Orchid Plaza’. Made of steel, the Clock Tower stands 3.5 m tall, with a 0.7-m-tall granite base.
Beautiful Orchid flowers at the base of the clock tower.
Pandanus trees
A waterfall by the ginger garden.
A pond
Ferns, and palms.
The setting sun.
It is not possible to take everything in in one visit to the gardens. There are a few attractions which I missed out on. I will catch them on my next visit. Even if I had seen everything I set out to see, the garden is always worth a visit again and again. The leisurely stroll among the trees, the sound of water, the fresh air and greenery is very relaxing and will revitalize you..
