'Reunion Dinner'

Every year, during Chinese New Year, friends from overseas return to celebrate with their family and friends. Their stay is short – only one to two weeks. And there are many things to do and people to catch up with. For our group, we usually take time off to have at least one dinner together. We called it our reunion dinner.

This year, instead of the usual restaurant that we went to, we tried a new place – a ‘Tze Char’ stall in one of the coffee shops near the residence of one in the group. It was recommended by him. He had dined there recently and felt that the food was good and cheap.

Since neither of the rest had any other suggestion or recommendation, we all agreed to give the stall a try. This was a couple of nights ago – on Wednesday. There were eight of us.

I was a bit uncomfortable taking pictures of the food. You see, none in the group except one is on social media. They wouldn’t understand my obsession with taking pictures. Plus, that meant they have to wait for me to take a picture first before they eat. Some might find it annoying. Luckily, my friend on social media took some hurried shots of some of the dishes for me so I could use them.

These were the dishes.

Steamed fish

Cereal, butter prawns
Mixed hot plate dish
Yam ring
And some noodles
There were two or three other dishes that escaped the photographer – the new year prosperity toss, pork ribs and one other dish that kept us guessing what it was. Anyway, they were all very nice and there were no complaints.
