Palm Valley

There is a ‘Palm Valley’ in the Botanical gardens. In the palm valley, there is a lake called ‘Symphony Lake’. In the symphony lake is symphony stage. There are performances from time to time. Visitors to the gardens can stop to enjoy the symphony. Or, if they know of the performances in advance, they can gather their families, or friends and enjoy the performances together while having a picnic.

“The Singapore Botanic Gardenshas one of the largest collections of palms in Singapore, and possibly one of the largest collections in the world. There are about 800 individual palms in Palm Valley alone, belonging to almost 100 genera and over 200 species (the Gardens as a whole has 115 genera and between 260 to 300 species, including several yet to be determined). This is more than half of all known genera of palms!” - Information taken from the signboard.

Now, this is news to me. I did see, and thought that there were quite a few palm trees in the gardens on my visit. But, I have no idea that palms are one of the ‘highlights’ of the Botanical Gardens. After reading the sign, it all made sense.

More palms dotted about the gardens.
