The Railway Mall

Railway mall is a stretch of single story shops, cafes and bars, divided by a car park. The design of the place is unique. It has the appeal of a neighbourhood mall.

The mall is situated beside a railway track. I guess that is probably where the name came from. The railway track has since been disused and turned into a tracking trail - a 'green corridor'.

The fact that it is one of the entry points to the ‘green corridor’ is an advantage to the businesses in the mall. It is convenient for people exploring the 'green corridor' trail to stop by for a bite, or a drink and/or do some shopping.

Bridging Shadows

A street full of shadows will teach you what life is, much better than the street full of lights! - Mehmet Murat ildan
If the title of the post doesn’t make sense, let it be a click bait. Anyhow, one day, I was coming up to the overbridge on my afternoon walk, when something about it struck me. It took a moment for it to register. It’s the shadows of the railings - if that is what they are called. We usually look for shadows on the ground, or on a wall, but these are shadows of the ‘railings’ on the wall of the overhead bridge. Cool, isn’t it?

Tulipmania At The Flower Dome

Tulipmania at the Flower Dome, in the Gardens by the Bay is a display of Tulips with a Turkish theme. I have long thought that Tulips originated from the Netherlands. It looks like I was very much mistaken.

According to a sign at the exhibition, the origin of the tulips “… goes back and into Kazakhstan, following in the footsteps of nomadic tribes that trekked trough mountains of Central Asia. It is believed that tulips have first appeared in the wild at these mountains, and were then introduced to Turkey.”

Apparently there are 3,000 registered tulip varieties. And in Kazakhstan, there are more than 35 species of wild tulips, 18 of which are protected by the state.

I managed to catch the display towards of the end of the display date. I am glad I did. It was awesome to see all the lovely tulips on display, and to learn about their origins, and also a bit of Kazakhstan culture.

Enjoy the pictures of the beautiful Tulips. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to learn the names of the different varieties of tulips, so I am not able to tell you what they are.

This is a Yurt – a form of dwelling used by nomadic Kazakhs. “The Yurt is furnished with traditional textiles and other inter décor items from Kazakhstan.”
Photo enthusiasts, so keen and focus on their interest.

Neighbourhood Cats

There are quite a few cats in the neighbourhood. I think they are strays, but they are not wary of people at all. So, I wonder.

On my way out for my afternoon walk, I saw this white and grey cat resting on the steps. I stopped to take a picture of it, expecting it to scurry away. But it didn't. It studied me with eyes alert but didn't move. It's a beautiful cat.

One and a half hours later, when I returned from my walk, the cat is still around. It has move a metre from where it was, and was grooming itself. I snapped a few more shots of it and leave it to its grooming.
What I admire about cats is that they don't seem to have a care in the world. Eckhart Tolle, the visionary spiritual teacher, call them Zen masters. It easy to understand why.

Flora And Fauna On The Trail

Here are more pictures of the flora and Fauna from my recent exploration of the 👉 The Rail Corridor. I did only a small stretch of the trail. It is a nice trail, and definitely worth exploring more. Something to do when the weather is nice.
The Rail Corridor, or Green Corridor is a popular trail with hikers, joggers, walkers, bikers, and anyone who craves for a bit of nature. The rail corridor is also a part of the rich heritage of Singapore.

I picked a weekday in the afternoon to avoid the crowd. Still there were more people about than I expected. Maybe they were thinking the same thing.

I came upon this monitor lizard by the side of the road.
There was a rustle in the under-bush and another came chasing after it. I am glad it was chasing me.
There are two birds in the trees. See if you can spot them.
A plant from the ginger plant family – if I am not mistaken.
A plant with bright coloured bracts to help attract the insects, butterflies and birds.
I have no idea what this fruit, or plant is.
Beautiful ferns. Plenty of them in the wild.
And this was where I ended my exploration of the trail. I plan to start from this point in my next exploration.

Reflections

I saw this reflection of the ceiling of the dome on a pond during my recent visit to the ‘Cloud Forest’. The water in the pond was still. Hence the reflection was very sharp.
Little ‘islands’ on the pond showcases carnivorous plants like Venus Flytrap, Pitfall Trap, Snap Trap, Suction Trap, Lobster Pot Trap etc.. Evil and devilish Nature.

They are on the islands so that little children don’t get eaten accidentally. Nah, just kidding.

A Quote on Reflections
